I was at UK when Pitino rebuilt the program after Sutton got them on probation. The team of "unforgettables" (Pelfrey, Farmer, Woods, Feldhaus, Brasso, Martinez, Mashburn as a freshman, etc.) that lost in the Elite 8 to Duke was the most exciting team I've seen next to this year's Vols.

They too overachieved and left it all on the court. Now, UK fans are freak if they don't make the Final Four. Then, UK fans loved the team.

Sutton was an easy scapegoat. The NCAA specifically cleared him of any wrongdoing. Kentucky essentially put themselves on probation by running a corrupt program for 40+ years.

Uh er um... back to my original point - that basketball team reminded me of this year's Vols.

I don't see him as one to jump ship like alot do. We are a large program, and one that is worth staying for given the resources to build it, and UT has that. I see him at UT for a long time, as long as UT don't run him off.
Anybody ever listen to the rubes that call in to Vol Calls on Monday night. Now, I'm native Tennessean, and my diction is less than perfect, but if they don't start let screening the callers Bruce and Mrs. Pearl are going to hightail it out of East Tennessee for fear of it rubbing off on the children. :banghead:

This season won't soon be forgotten. I agree, it was fun, the most fun Tennessee basketball season in my memory, and I can remember back to the Dale Ellis days. Unfortunately, Pearl has now set the bar pretty high... we won't sneak up on anyone next year - and we won't be happy unless we win 20+ games and get to the sweet 16. So I'm going to savor the memories of this season for a long time...

As far as Pearl leaving, my hope is that he wants to be the guy who establishes a program and takes it to the national level of competition year in year out. He could go to a school like UK, Michigan State, etc. and just be another in a long line of coaches. OR, he could stay at Tennessee and maybe take us to that level. There's not many schools that compete at the highest level in men's b-ball and football.
