Following up on Vols QB transfer-outs

Respectfully, that’s a pre-transfer portal, pre-NIL mentality. The schedule is no longer a 4-5 year cycle of recruiting, player development, and culture. The schedule is, for better or worse, to raid the free agency market every offseason to fill our needs and use our school resources to offer big NIL deals so we can win lots of games and compete for playoff slots NOW.

That “taking years to build” crap is hopefully a relic of the past. It was a sick way of gaslighting the fan base into always thinking that if they just continued to endure a dumpster fire for 4 years, some mythical build was going to magically come to fruition. And of course it never did.

Things have now changed because of transfer portal and NIL, and we should start acting like it as a fan base. I support this team 100%, and I love Heup’s offense, and yes things were better last year than under Pruitt (how could they not be?), but if we don’t do a hell of a lot better than 7 wins this year, then nothing has changed, at all. I’m expecting to get great results this year, not 2-3 years from now.

NO MORE PATIENCE VOL FANS.

This is all a little crazy. While you are a little correct with transfers and NIL. Success will still be built from the high school recruiting. That will never change. It’s still gonna take time to build. Just as we can raid the transfer portal, our players can hit the portal. This no more patience crap seems like a way for you to set up Heupel for failure.

I remember Tee Martin signing with, and then staying at, UT knowing he would sit behind Peyton at least 1 year but probably 2...He could have chosen Notre Dame or Auburn where he probably starts right away.....I doubt the Nat'l Championship of '98 would have happened if Tee had transferred...But I digress (yes, I'm old too)....

NIL and transfer portal is like the Boogie Man for Saban. There’s a reason why he’s been so vocal. The fact that he is up at night sweating it, and you think it’s overblown, shows the depth of the “build it” mentality. What do think the beef with Texas A&M has been about? Last time I checked, A&M didn’t build its way into the playoff picture with non-paid grass route high school recruits that he coached up over 3-4 years. They bought it and transferred it in almost overnight.

Do you think USC is going to be very successful this year even though they have a first year coach and have been irrelevant for years? I do! And it’s because of the transfer portal and NIL, not because Riley hit the pavement looking for high school talent to coach up.

Do you think Ole Miss fans are going to be content with an 7 win team this year? I don’t think so. They have a great coach and TON of transfer portal talent. The only thing setting back ole miss from getting over the hump is they don’t have the same NIL money as UT. Too bad for them.

Why do think Auburn wants their coach out so bad after one year? They hired a “build it” coach and then NIL happened. Auburn AD is now gone, coach will be gone soon. They will then hammer the transfer portal and NIL and within a year or two they will compete for a championship.

How about Miami? Just as irrelevant as UT past couple decades, but now new coach, lots of NIL.

And as for Heupel, I’m not setting him up for anything except to win, and quickly. He’s got an $8mil QB coming for heaven sakes. He’s got no excuse not to win quick. And we have no excuse for not holding him to that standard.

The good news is that You and I both want the same thing, to win. We can agree to disagree on the best way to get there. I just refuse to live in the past when the goal posts have clearly moved on how to win in college sports now, for better or worse.
