Do you think Tebow will be able to fill in for Leak and manage their offense well? The way they have recruited, that is all he really has to do.

I'm not sure about his arm, but he may not need it either. I'm sure he eventually will be as good or better than Leak. Luckily they are off our schedule for a few years, except for the SEC Championship, of course.

You haven't seen half the plays Meyer wants to run out of that offense. Leak could run the passing plays and the sweeps, but he was not really much threat to run, and that nixed all of the true option plays. Plus, our offensive line last year, going into it, had about three total college snaps between them. They were in no position to make downfield blocks off of a run-option.

With the line having a year under its belt and an entire off-season to run the offense, with Tebow in there as a real run threat, and with lightning speed all over the field, the Gators should routinely light people up for plenty of points. Even if it takes Tebow a little while to get his sea legs in terms of the passing game, the offense will be potent.

The question is the defense. They have apparently recruited some studs, but of course they are freshmen, so we just don't know how good they will be. This year's team will be the flipside of last year's -- this year the offense putting up points and the defense just having to do enough to win here and there.

Tell you what, 2008 looks to be an incredible year for Florida, with Tebow and Harvin as juniors, the line with two years' experience and the young defense much more experienced. That to me is the year that the Gators are most likely to be another serious threat for the NC.

Word is his arm is better than Leaks, and also, didn't he set some passing records in the state of Florida?

No one knows how good Tebow will be or how effective Meyer's offense will really be in the SEC. The first two years weren't anything special against SEC defenses. If I were a Gator fan, that would worry me because even if you think Leak didn't run the whole O... they lit non-conference opponents up. The NC game showed that playing a Big 10 D (or MAC/MWC) isn't like playing in the SEC.

Leak btw was a great student of the game. Whatever he might have lacked in running ability was more than made up for by his film study and game intelligence. We don't know if Tebow brings that or not.

It will be interesting to see the questions really start to be answered this year. Can the spread work in a conference where offensive skill players are not better athletes than the defenses they play? Can a QB survive running the ball 15 times per game in the SEC plus the other hits they take? This is even a bigger question with a guy like Tebow. Great size/strength and good speed- but he isn't going to out quick the LB's or probably even DE's he faces.

Just as important for next year is the question of whether UF can find an RB that can run effectively against the SEC in this offense.

i agree, and i also think TN's next big chance to make a run is in 08..we'll be kind of in the same situation...all the young guys from last year and this year get experience, this year's recruiting class will have solid contributors in 08....if the qb situation works itself out with Crompton as a rs jr, i'll be thinking big things in 08 as well.

come to think of it...GA should be in pretty good shape by then as well.....maybe SC by then too if they have more success this year.

08 may be the toughest year ever for the SECE....for anyone to win it......there could be 4 legit top 10-15 programs from the SEC E that year.

lawgator, unfortunately, is right. Trust me, I have a copy of Bowling Green's 2002 playbook and (as raw and unrefined as it is) it still dwarfs what Florida ran with Chris Leak in charge.

The number of formations and variations that Meyer had Alex Smith running at Utah is simply staggering. The idea that the SEC defenses would swamp the offense are right up there with the idea that the Big XII, after a period of time, would have no problem stopping Nebraska's I-formation option attack. The only thing that stopped Nebraska was when Frank Solich de-emphasized the option and focused on a more pro-style offense.

Tebow has the athletic ability. The question will boil down to whether he, as a sophomore with limited experience, will make good decisions. Last year his decisions were, for the most part, limited to whether he should run left or just slightly left of center. Like all young QBs, the jury is still out on whether he can handle choices more complicated than that at SEC game speeds.

Good lord, LG, logic rather than rhetoric? You are going to give the legal profession a bad name.

These lose a lot of talent on defense. Tebow could easily cost them a game or two (as almost every first year QB does). I really don't see another NC.

Seeing UM use Tebow in critical situations shows he has ultimate confidence as an underclassman and understudy. The fact he was almost always successfull shows he himself has a ton of confidence in himself. What really worries me is their line is another year mature and Tebow has their confidence. The one weakness I see in Tebow is his passing ACCURACY may not be as good as Leaks's, and that may be of use to Chief...but UM is smart enough to set up plays to minimize weaknesses and utilize Tebow's strength. IF the Vols beat the Gators next season it will definately imo have to be a defensive effort similar to the 92 bama D.

I thought I read where UF will be using a two QB system next year, no? I thinkUrban will keep using Tebow as a fullback and get the kid hurt.

i would do something awful if they won another title

If they were to win another basketball championship this year, and follow it up with yet another football championship this fall, I might drive to Gainesville and start randomly gunning people down in the streets.

If Meyer keeps Tebow in the game for 95% of the snaps and does all this running with him. Defenses will start rocking him, grabbing a little sack in the pile-up, going for his arm and in extreem cases (if you play Air Force) going for his knees.

Anyone that has played football knows that nothing is foul play in the bottom of a pile up.

I'm just saying the kid is a baller or he wouldn't be at Florida but will he be able to take the physical beating for 60 minutes as opposed to just when Meyer wanted to be sly. He's got the body to, but that isn't always the final equation (see Daunte Culpepper).

Not to mention everyone outside of florida fans hate his guts.

Meyer won't have Tebow killed. Running backs can make it through the whole year and I doubt next year that Tebow has that much head on running.
