Alright, we've danced around it enough already. You are going to beat Air Force and we are going to beat UCF, so let's not kid ourselves. It will be a match-up of two Top Ten teams. Who will win?

I have absolutely no idea. Tennessee looked like a completely different team out there against Cal as opposed to last year. And no, it wasn't just that Cal was shell-shocked by the speed and strength of Tennessee, although they clearly were. It was also simply that Tennessee this year has that finish-the-play mentality that was missing last year. I honestly think that last year's season is offiically a ghost. After drubbing Cal like you did, the players have much more confidence in themselves and the coaches and there is no reason for you not to play to your potential, which is NOT what you did last year.

Florida, the jury is still out. Obviously, the talent is there. So is the will to win. But the game against Sourthen Miss suggested to me that the team had not yet gelled. This is probably partly a function of all the youth out there. Don't get me wrong, they're very good football players. But they are each going through the transition of having been the star player in high school to being one of many talented guys on a college roster. The team, last Saturday, lacked identity. I do think towards the end of the third quarter and into the fourth they started to show something. But they need to complete that process in 60 minutes next week or the trip to UT could be ugly.

I think right now, all things considered, you have to give a slight edge to Tennessee. But I also think that Florida is completely capable of winning that game and it ought to be VERY entertaining.

Sure, the Vols and Gators should win this weekend, but I'd like to see how they play in doing so before I start thinking about their game. :p

I went to the SC opener last year against UCF. UCF is not exactly a pushover. Florida should win easily, but they can't just show up and expect a blowout.

sitting here bored at work, sept 16. is on my mind, but you know what we cant take Air Force for granted. We need to take this one game at a time, GO VOLS

If Tennessee plays like they did against California... no one on the Vols schedule is going to beat them. That's a big "IF", I might add.

UCF and Southern Miss are not bad teams. They rule the roost right now in their conference. I'd put them on a par with Kentucky. A team we ought to beat by three touchdowns but certainly capable of exposing problems and showing us where we need to improve. From that perspective, a wise scheduling choice.

I wish I felt the same way. The speed and athleticism we faced against Cal doesn't hold a candle to what we'll see against UGA, Florida, LSU etc.

So you're going with the "Cal just isn't that good" theory?

No, I think Cal was a pretty decent team, just not quite as good as some people would have you believe. I guess I'm going with the "Cal was good, but we're going to see much better" theory.

Stuff like those 3 yard gains that turn into TDs might happen once against a quality defense, but definitely not 3 times.

Ohh... I see... I can agree with that.

I was just checking Phil Steele's magazine and I noticed AF fields all Sr's and Jr's except 1 soph on defense. They may not be in our catagory of speed and atletisism, but to under estimate them would be a mistake...the triple option is tough, if you arent disciplined.

I personally think that the playing field will always be somehat level at the start of the UT - UF game. There's just so much emotion - which will get you in great shape, or bad trouble - by halftime. You'd almost have to give UT the edge based on week one based on the improvement factor alone.

But if we can slobberknock Leak a few times in the first half, we'll be just fine. I'll be interested to see how the receivers do against flordia's corners.

No doubt. It can drive a defense crazy.

I think back to last year watching Ga Southern hang about 250 yards rushing and 28 points on UGA. It's just a different type of football.

That is one thing about the academies i live to watch, is the option. It's so much fun, the only way to stop it is speed, and we have that, but it should still be fun none the less

I could honesly say that if someone predicted a blow out for either side, I couldnt argue. Same for either side in a close one. I have a feeling it could be better than the 2004, 2001, and 1998 games.

I think it's setting up for a really good game. I think it will be similar to the miami/florida st game last night. There's stil time though. Even though i'm sure both teams are already preparing for each other, I'm still interested to see how each team does against this week's opponent. Will Florida come back strong and will TN keep the engine going. This week might/might not show a lot, but regardless I see Sept 16 setting up to be a great game!

Or maybe even better than the 1994, 2000, 2002, or 2005 games.

Particularly true with regard to Florida's secondary. Lightning fast. A blur. Ainge will need to put some serious zing on the ball and the more he throws towards the sidelines, the better for us.

I know I ended up mentioning only years UT won, but by and large, when UF beats UT, its pretty soundly. :/ Notice I didn't mention 2003, a quite boring game.
