I don't get why they would do that. The should own the ACC

Easier for them to get to the NC.
More money and security by joining the SEC.
Keeping the FSU-Florida rivalry inside the SEC could actually end up helping them.
Too many pluses.

I agree. Leaving the ACC in terms of football is the best option they have. However, I disagree with the article as i don't feel they would bring any credibility to the SEC in terms of basketball.

They have it easier in the ACC. By far.

It would result in less money for the current members. This is not a win-win like A&M would be.

Keeping the FSU-Florida rivalry inside the SEC could actually end up helping them.

I don't see how. It certainly wouldn't help UF.

fsu to the sec makes no sense. I would be shocked to see them move. I think the acc as a whole is pretty stable.

A 1-loss SEC team will always get the nod to play in the NC game. Even a 2-loss SEC team can get the nod. Florida State could make it out of the SEC scathed and still get a shot at the title.

FSU or clemson would work pretty well imo already got SEC rivals and recruit the southeast hard

Or they could simply waltz through a mediocre ACC undefeated and make it to the NC. How is an FSU program that can't get through the ACC without 2+ losses going to make it through the SEC with only 1?

How much sway could they have if everyone else is on board with it?

I don't think everyone else is on board.

New members require "Yes" votes from 9 current members. FSU will definitely get a "No" from Florida and Alabama, and it would shock me if they didn't get a "No" from Auburn. I'm confident there is a 4th "No" amongst UGA, USCe, and LSU.

From another thread:
SEC Expansion: League Unlikely To Add Members In Current States : Outkick The Coverage

4.*The SEC is unlikely to add any schools in states where they already have teams.

The reason is simple, the SEC believes it is already doing well enough in those markets. This means all the Florida State, Miami, Clemson and Georgia Tech talk is just that, talk. Similarly for all you Memphis and Louisville fans holding out fond hopes of joining the conference, you have no shot either.
For a school like Florida State -- which has been trying, off and on,*to join the SEC since the 1950's -- this exclusion is a big deal. Incidentally, you need to read that link to all the stories about FSU joining the SEC. It shows what a hot-button expansion has been for fifty years.

Va Tech is the only ACC team that really seems worth the trouble. I think it's likely that the 14th school will also come from the Big XII.

The state of North Carolina would give the SEC a footprint into a populous market place. We will likely look at UNC, NC State and even Duke. Duke brings a private school into the equation to go along with Vanderbilt and will add a great basketball program to the mix.
