I don't think this weekend's game will be affected.

Ours very well may, though. We'll see which way the storm turns in the next day or two.

We making excuses already?

Hurricane is expected to hit south florida sun or monday. If they cancel the game it will be to free up hotels for people, i think. Either way, good move. Life before football.

Rest their offense? You think that will help? I'd rather them keep practicing on each other (a lot of good that did for the first game) instead of playing an inferior team and getting some game experience with live bullets. They had all offseason of rest and still scored 3 offensive points.

Do you think they are spending this week game planning for this week's game? Do you think we are spending this week game planning for Indiana State? Both teams are game planning for 1 1/2 weeks from now...I'd rather them practice against each other than get some real game time working their kinks out.

Why do we take the perspective that practically everything happening is good for opponents and bad for us? What a horrible way to live. Flip the script, the hurricane can cause disruption to UF's schedule. The student athlete's routine will suffer. They will be worried about friends and family in the path of the storm. They will lose focus. Practices will be canceled. They will be rusty.

See? Now an event no one can control is in our favor. Perspective. Stop being afraid of your own shadow.

I live on the coast so I've been keeping an eye on the storm and the models I saw this morning have it taking a northerly turn when it gets to Florida. It may track all the way up the east coast next week.

If they don't play next week, all those UF suspensions will carry over to UT game. That being said, there are more important things to focus attention when another hurricane is about to destroy homes, communities, etc.

Yea, this is exactly the way I think of it. To leave the real concern out of it, if it benefits anyone at all as far as football goes, it's us.

the suspensions were listed as "indefinite" and as far as i know that's not changed...something to keep an eye on over the next week or so.

Yeah, i saw that too. But it should lose most of its punch before it hits gainsville area and further north, hopefully anyway.

Cat 5 means it can lose a lot of punch and still be extremely disastrous. That thing is 300 miles wide with 185 mph sustained winds, gusts 220+. Cut those numbers in half and it's still terrifying.

It's good to see that the state of Florida is already preparing and I hope everyone in the path of the storm come through with minimal damage.

I left on Sunday to come to East TN. Was going back this Sunday but not now!

Good thinking, Boca. If this hurricane follows the NHC tracker center line, almost all of Florida will have to say hello to it at some point. The Keys could get demolished.

Still hoping it curls out on the north and eastern edge of its potential track cone, turns back into the Atlantic.

Every update the NHC has made over the past 36 hours has pushed it further and further east.

Hoping that trend continues and the state of Florida dodges a bullet.

Me too. My daughter lives in SW FL about halfway between Lake Okeechobee and Ft Myers. She was planning to head north, however, her school is a hurricane shelter, and as an administrator, she has to stay and help oversee the shelter.
The bad thing about hurricanes, and I have been through several in the 50 years that I lived in SW FL, you pray that they will turn and not hit you, which means that they are going to hit someone else and disrupt their lives.
You are then feeling a combination of relief, hope and guilt all at the same time.
But as was posted, football is a minor concern, a relaxing (unless you are a UT fan) pastime. This storm is real life.
I wish all the Gulf Coast and East Coast UT fans safety this week.

It is my sincere hope that your daughter and everyone staying behind remains safe. My folks are on Amelia Island just north of Jax; since they retired down there from Knoxville they're going 2 for 2 on years they've had to evacuate (last year was Matthew, and now it looks like Irma's headed for NE FL).

That's what I keep seeing as well. I hope the winds from the West keep pushing out to the Atlantic.
