They play well against Georgia. That meant we have no chance. They struggle a week later and that means it’s our best chance ever to win there? It’s always a struggle for us to beat them at home. It just is.
Because we are a middle tier SEC program.

Meanwhile in Lexington looks like the Gators have thrown in the towel! The SEC is going to look a lot different next year. Players will be hitting the portal like them little beetles flocking to your ceiling.
When the Vols go to the swamp. It will be the Gators bowl game. Vols has to show they can win at Florida.

The 22 years thing is overhyped. More like 11 years.
It's like the Arkansas nonsense. Yeah, we hadn't beaten them in 18 years but we had only played them 4 times in that span. People tend to refer to stats like that to add drama to the situation. Similar to last year when Vandy beat Bama for the first time in 40 years.

They always make excuses for our successes, while simultaneously downplaying logic and facts that helped lead to any failures
It's the same way with this narrative that we cannot possibly win in Gainesville because we always lose regardless of how good the Gators are. The same people fail to use the same logic while claiming that Vandy will come into Neyland and beat us.

Yeah, we had some injuries. Casey was out for a couple of games and a couple of our WRs were hurt.
That was probably the most injuries I’ve ever seen a UT team endure. Lost several starters at DB. Kevin Simon. I think all five OL starter missed time. Starting RB Cedric Houston missed a lot of the season and was gimpy when he was available. Obviously the big one was Kelley Washington missing most of the season.

It’s a completely different world in college football these days.
Almost every player is looking for the next big payday.
In Florid’s case, it’s not worth getting hurt when your season
is basically over. Their last effort was the UGA game.

One thing occurs to me. Remember all the Florida fans who used to post on vn.com regularly? And when any of us told them they were only here to gloat, they said, "we'd be here win or lose, we just like discussing football." Heh. See any of them posting regularly now?

They may still be lurking, and one of them may even respond to this note. But fact is, they're pretty much not around any more.

They were just here to gloat. Damn lizards.

Go Vols!

Most have disappeared. There are a few respectable diehards still here though.

Watch 'em play their best game of the season against us.
If we can avoid the turnovers and just get a moderately decent game from the defense we should win. Also we haven't made the third and short that well in the last few games, need to pick that up. We can get a win, just have to avoid the mistakes. GBO!!!

In the locker room before the game, they will put a blindfold on a frat boy that we've never heard of. He allegedly played some football in high school. His name is Luke and they whisper in his helmet receiver to trust the force. Just throw it where the force tells you to. Don't worry about UT...they always choke. The force is with you always!

We will be heavily favored over the Gators. With that said, I am not predicting anything as we play them in the Swamp. Several times since we last beat them in 2003 in Gainesville that we'd go down there with the more talented team to shoot ourselves in the foot and lay a giant turd on Florida Field. I hope that this will be different and we wipe the floor with them at the Swamp. But I won't be too surprised if Aguilar picks this game to have his worst by throwing for three or four picks, fumbling a couple of more times, and making DJ Lagway look like a Heisman Front Runner against our defense. We seem to have that kind of luck against the Gators at the Swamp for some reason. Hope that our luck changes this year.

Like I posted in another thread...If we can't beat them there in 2 weeks we probably will never beat them there.
That has nothing to do with future teams. Best thing players can do is quit listening to the fans making them out to be more than they are. Times change teams change. GBO! Some folks said the same thing about a national championship after Manning left, if we didn’t win it with him we never would. Well we won it the next year without him. All these sound bites don’t mean a darn thing. All that matter is the team that takes the field believes and is prepared. GBO

Other teams are playing hard that aren’t going to the playoffs. Not all players are looking for the next big payday. Auburn played their rear off last night. Fans regurgitate the same old hogwash. They put all players in the same box, it’s BS. Players that are loafing aren’t going to be getting a big payday somewhere else. It they do it is going to be from a desperate team.

Florida is tough to beat in the swamp 99% of the time for any team. Notice they played Kentucky on the road. Had that game been in the swamp I doubt the final score is what it was in Lexington. They have loss two games in the swamp this year by a combined 6 points. Loss to SF by 2 and GA by 4.

Pretty sure we were preseason top 5 in 2002. We had lots of injuries that year, even more than this year, but that’s not the reason we lost to Florida. We lost because Casey Clausen forgot how to handle a snap.
Wasn’t the starting center hurt that game? It’s been 20+ years ago but I recall a game like that the Vols started a center who had never been center ever. Could be wrong and probably am.

Lagway getting benched against UK has my heart convinced The Old Ball coach and Tebow show up the week of our game as honorary assistant head coaches to put the gatas through their paces. They start a 3rd string QB who has never taken a collegiate snap who comes out with a zero turnover, 4 TD, and 455 yards passing game. Head says we win by two scores. This is why I miss the actual Witch Doctor to tell me what the bones say because we all know the bones never lie.

Oddly enough, I was just thinking of him the other day…

They also should have lost in the swamp to the Mississippi State team that many here are convinced is absolute trash.

Technically the Georgia game was at a neutral site, but otherwise, I agree with your post. Especially when Tennessee plays at the Swamp.

Hmm…I remember in 1999, our starting all-conference center Spencer Riley had a broken hand, and the back-up freshman came into the game, and Tee Martin immediately fumbled the snap. Then, Riley went back into the game and snapped with his left hand. I don’t remember which game that was. I think it was Memphis, but I’m not sure.

I don’t remember something similar happening in 2002, but I have blocked that Florida game from my memory. LOL, that was one of the first UT games I ever turned off. (I’ve done that MANY times since then, but I was only a teen in 2002).

That’s probably the game I was thinking about too. I was a Sophomore in high school at the time so that was many many moons ago.
