Yep. I would say 5 plus 2... but yeah, you should't be playing 9 guys with several playing multiple positions. Still they pass blocked pretty well for most of the game and had some good moments against a D sold out to stop the run.

No question at all. I tilt toward the players but there's little doubt that the staff underestimated GSU... and really why not? Would you normally want to show a lot of your "stuff" to a 2-10 weakling? GSU surprised them though and they didn't have adjustments prepared.

Is he? I hoped he was. I hoped that the combination of Tee, Chaney, and Weinke could fix his decision making and pre/post snap coverage reads. I hoped that a 4th year CFB QB and 3rd year starter would be able to see a S bailing out to cover a receiver spread alone on the backside in single coverage... and check for a CB blitz. I hoped that his confidence would have improved enough that he would throw guys open rather than having to see guys wide open before throwing... else checking down. I hoped that a 4th year QB with all of that support would at least be a good enough game manager to sustain drives against one of the nation's worst returning D's.

Maybe what we saw Saturday... is just who JG is. Maybe he's reached his ceiling mentally as a QB. Maybe all of that physical talent will never be maximized because he just can't "get it".

Could not agree more with you about JG. Guy just can't adjust to the flow of the game, super stiff robotic movements. Fact is some of this stuff just can't be taught, you have that "It Factor" or you don't and as much as I would like to see him do well, it is not going to happen on this team with all the other problems we have. With so many problems with the O line and young players missing blocking assignments, running wrong routes, we are not a well oiled machine and we really need a QB that can fly by the seat of his pants and take some of the pressure off the line. JG is a defensive players dream, a non mobile QB that we be standing still and let you cream him over and over again.

Put JG on a well developed team like Bama, they have it all, talent, experience, depth, 5 star players everywhere, and he would do just fine, sitting back in the pocket throwing so lasers, and make some nice handoffs, nothing exciting, but not making too many mistakes.

We need a MOBILE qb that can make things happen with his feet when the called plays break down. This guy will never win with this inexperienced team and I am afraid we are in for another disappointing season.

MAYBE....but by HOW MUCH???

I am really hoping JG shows us something new Saturday night instead of his status operandi.....

I said at the end of last year that Shrout will be the starter by mid-season.....
I have desperately wanted JG to be the guy who could live up to his hype....but just holding on to that hope by a thread.

If JG can't lead us to a TD in the 1st QTR---throw Shrout and Maurer out there into the fray.....

OK, have you got all your little Hyams rants out of the way?

He makes a point without saying it out loud. The disastrous loss Saturday was not just that one major f-up that most myopic fans seem to lock on to.

It was a perfect storm of so many things. May have started with pre-game prep being spread out over out next three opponents, not the one at hand. I didn't favor that approach when I heard it. Whatever, I sure would enjoy this place a whole lot more if you could refrain from constantly trying to outdo each other with the perfect arm-chair expertise that explains that one thing we should all blame.

Go Vols! Let's take it out on BYU.

I don't think JG would flourish there either. He's afraid to take risks. UT just got defended by a team they should have scored 60 on. His decision making wouldn't work anywhere.

It truly is sad. He has great physical talent. But like you say, the mental part is every bit as much a "talent" as the physical part.

UT could win with a guy like Tyler Bray right now. He made good reads and good decisions and wasn't afraid to drive the ball into a small window. Or they could win with a guy like Dobbs. It is the decision making that matters most.
