Since Fulmer's departure we have had the following 1st Yr results:
Kiffin: 7-6
Dooley: 6-7
Jones: 5-7
Seems to be a downward trend. Will Pruitt have a better record in 2018 than these 3 had in their inaugural seasons? If Pruitt is 5-7, 4-8 will that be an indictment of poor coaching or roster deficiencies? Looking at the 2009/2010/2013 rosters and schedules would Pruitt and Staff have had better records than his predecessors? Alternatively, does Volnation think Kiffin could do better than 5-7/6-6 record that some predict for Pruitt's first year?

It would be a great first season for Pruitt if he just went 6-6 and got into a bowl game, that said with this brutal schedule I expect a 5-7 2-6 SEC record for Pruitt’s first season on the hill.

Honestly, 6-6 would be acceptable, as hard as that is to swallow. I could see another 8 loss season. This is the least talented team any of the last 4 coaches have inherited.

I would argue that up until now the quality of coaching has gone down each switch as well. I am in a small minority (maybe of one) that thinks Dooley is a better all-around coach than Jones, but neither one worked out at all here. Hopefully Pruitt's results break this trend because ultimately we will see he is a step up from at least the last two.

I'm not a fan of lowered expectations simply because the coach is new.

Pruitt should be able to manage 6 wins at a minimum.

I have nothing to base this on but gut feelings. I think we have a football coach for once and we manage 7 wins. I'm hoping that we are all surprised by the difference we see in this team this upcoming season.

As much as I despise Kiffin, he can create an explosive offense. I think Kiffin had slightly more talent to work (bail) with, and it will be difficult for Pruitt to reach a 7-6 first season, especially coming off the worst season in TN history. Witnessed every home game with my own eyes besides seeing red during Georgia. Lastly, from what i have seen and read, Pruitt is a good, strong man with Christian values that has been around nothing but straight dubs.

Praying to the Lord almighty Pruitt comes through for my senior year!!

Go Vols!

Given the daunting schedule,I too would consider 6-6 a shining success. 5-7 is disappointing, any year at TN. My hope is the precieved improved coaching is realized with much improved play on OL/DL and QB (be it JG or "fill in the blank QB"). SECe is much improved. KY and Vandy may be only conf gimmies. Obviously Offense would be better under Kiffin. I am guessing D will be better to same degree under Pruitt.

If I had to pick today, I think Pruitt goes 4-8 (1-7) first season. If we had Kiffin I'd add a win just because of his offense.

Word in the BB forums is we basketball school now.

Basketball. That is that round thing right? Seriously though I have sincerely enjoyed the basketball this season. There is no reason we have to be either/or. Why can't we just be great at all of it?

It has been a fun season. I'm going to my first BB game Saturday, looking forward to it.

There’s more talent here now than when Jones took over, he just horribly mishandled it!

You will enjoy it. Not to commit heresy but in a way I like going to the basketball games better than the football games. Not as many people so parking is easier. Seats are much more comfortable. Climate controlled and the game does not drag on forever. I still think one thing hurting College football ratings which are at a 34 year low is stretching the game out to almost 4 hours. It is a real commitment.

I love all the talk about personal expectations for the program and such ( ), but please help me find more than four wins on our schedule...

Black Lung U - L
ETSU - W
UTEP - W
JortsU - L
Dawgs - L
Barners - L
Bama - L
USC - 50/50, but most likely a loss
Charlotte - W
Uky - 50/50
Mizzery - 50/50, but most likely a loss due to Dooley bringing a gold dog statue into their practice facility, improved shower discipline, and Drew Lock
westend academy - 50/50

Competent coaching across the board might help us in the 50/50s, but getting to .500 is going to be a stretch. It'll be interesting to see how our guys respond after the UF - Bama stretch of the season.

ETSU, UTEP, Fla, UK, Mizzou and Vandy are my gimmes. Florida did their damndest to suck worse than us last season and almost beat us again. :wink2: SC and WVA are the 50/50’s...so potential 7-8 win first season under Pruitt. Polls closed no further voting allowed. :stop:

At sucking? Did you understand what I wrote? Now I’m confused. :hi:

I thought you were talking about the game. They did also out suck us, but they are just the luckiest damn team. Almost as lucky as our Hail Mary against UGA the year before. We should have beat Florida the last 3 years.:cray:
