First top 25 out of conference win since 2003 over Miami.

Attended that Miami game with my wife and two daughters. We stayed in South Beach. Remember what sore losers the Miami fans were after the game throwing stuff at Vol Fans.

To put this even further in perspective…here are our road

Enjoy the win over Pitt and hope it’s not another 19 years for an out of conference road victory over a top 25 team.

A bit pessimistic. I think we can beat another ranked team on the road this year, assuming LSU stays in the top 25.

To put this even further in perspective…here are our road wins over top 25 opponents.

2003 - Florida, Miami
2004 - Georgia
2005 - LSU
2006 - Georgia
2016 - Georgia
2018 - Auburn
2021 - Kentucky

Even when you include home victories over top 25 teams…the list is only slightly better.

Enjoy the win over Pitt and hope it’s not another 19 years for an out of conference road victory over a top 25 team.

**Edited to remove Kentucky in 2018…that was a home game

Well, let's keep our fingers crossed that UVA has a good year this year and is in the Top 25 to start next season, as NashVegas would be another road victory.

Stats like this are kinda weird, and manufactured.

Don't get me wrong, I love that we went out and beat the reigning ACC champ. We just don't need to isolate it as somehow unique by adding conditions designed to make it seem "more special."

I mean, it has to be an away game? Not a neutral site game? Like 2015 when we beat #12 Northwestern in the Outback Bowl? Even though we thrashed them, 45-6?

Pffft.

Josh Heupel doesn't need the extra hype. He's got this. We beat the defending champs of another conference Saturday. That's impressive all on its own.

Go Vols!

I kind of remember it being rainy, but I don't know for sure. What's crazy is how good Miami had been up until that point. Tennessee was the first visiting team to win at the Orange Bowl in 4 years. It was also the first time Miami had failed to score a touchdown at home since 1984. Even stranger, the Vols won in spite of putting up just 170 yards of offense (81 passing, 89 rushing).
Derick Tinsley was the man that game. I was there too!

Yeah, we lost four between then per SEC Network. I did some research and discovered the 4.

2005 Notre Dame
2007 Cal
2012 Oregon
2015 Oklahoma

All four were ranked.

We also lost to UCLA in 2008 but they were NOT ranked.

I'm still pissed over that UCLA game
