Hello everyone. I am going to Knoxville, from San Antonio for the UTEP game next Saturday. It s the first Vols game I have ever been to. I have been a Volunteer fan for 27 years. I am looking for advice on what I need to do to have the full experience for my family. Best options for parking, rules on tailgating, places to stay away from etc. Thank you guys in advance for your help

Market Square is a must. Tupelo Honey is probably the most popular restaurant there (and you can leave and walk around Market Square while you wait for a table. There’s usually live music and lots of shops to explore), and Coolato Gelato is a great dessert place near there on Gay Street. Also a nice theater on the same steeet if you stay the whole day. There’s parking available on campus, but it’s often busy/expensive. Might be better to just find parking downtown (Locust Garage is the one I use to go downtown) and walk, it’s not very far. There is a thing called Volunteer Village in front of the humanities building that is fun for families, Smokey usually makes an appearance.
I hope you and your family have a great time! Go Vols!

Too many good places downtown To mention.
Go to market square, take a walk up Gay Street.
Plenty of wonderful places to shop and eat. Go to Nothing to Fancy and get the best state flag T-shirt you’ll ever wear.

Knoxville is a hidden gem of great places to eat and be entertained. The number of artisan pizza places is higher than expected for a city of its size. Litton's in Fountain City has some of the best desserts in the Southeast (and the burgers aren't bad, either). Gus's Good Times Deli is a hole in the wall that is on my "If I don't stop here, I haven't really been to Knoxville" list; I filled my belly there during many a late-night study binge.

Market Square is a blast; make sure to stop by Mast General Store.

This link provides a lot of detail regarding activities and expectations. If you haven't attended a football game recently, you should take note of the clear bag policy described on the website.

Have fun, be patient with the crowds, and sing Rocky Top about a thousand times.

If you have kids, take them at some point to Phoenix Pharmacy. Its a one of a kind old school pharmacy that serves fresh ice cream. Good stuff.

Edit: Its downtown somewhere on the fringes of Market Square.

I like to visit Ham 'n Goodys (314 Northshore Drive, Knoxville TN 37919) for some good tea cakes and I never pass up an opportunity to eat at Gus' Good Times Deli.

I'd come prepared to walk quite a bit. I personally prefer eating in market square , walking the river to the stadium and taking in the vol walk each game.

Wear orange. Buy some overpriced stadium food. Have fun
Thank you. Would you say its better to do the Vol walk or tailgate? Really want to check out the Vol Navy, but doing everything may be difficult as kickoff is at 11 am.
