First Satellite Camp

Best possible location.

Look for Charlotte's football staff to be the next group on the list.

Wouldn't we rather these Atlanta kids be coming up to our campus for a camp in Knoxville and seeing our facilities. Seems like we will get less players to our campus because of this satellite camp stuff. The kids will just stay at home and wait for all the staffs to set up camps where they are. Hope our staff can stand out. without the benefit of our facilities to help.

Kids will still want to visit schools...will be an opportunity for coaches to be in front of more recruits then ever possible and sell them and convince more to come up.

If you have an opportunity to be face to face to recruits easily you have to take it.

I understand they have to do it, but I think it would have been better for TN if there were no Satellite camps allowed, because we get a bigger advantage over other schools when kids are on campus. We get more to campus when they can come for a camp separate from a unofficial or official recruiting visit. Now it seems like some may just skip traveling to on campus camps and just wait for the camp to come to their home town.

I think it doesn't help TN as much as it will some other schools but I would guess us getting to have more in face time with kids in South Florida, Atlanta, Charlotte, DC, Texas, ect will increase our numbers of those kids visiting later than decrease it. Just my opinion but I don't think coaches would be doing it if they thought it hurt their chances of getting a kid to visit.

Agree...and, trying to create a larger recruiting base in Florida wouldn't be a bad thing...:)

GO VOLS!

I think this absolutely benefits us. The only schools that are pissed about it are the Florida, California, and Texas schools because they get butthurt when other schools can just stroll into their territory. Also we have the largest recruiting budget in the country so I see nothing but positives for us and it also allows us to be seen all over the country. I for one am glad the NCAA decided to allow these camps.

The thing about Fl is all smaller schools are going give Big 3 coaches the options to take part as well. I can almost guarantee UM, FSU or UF will be involved in any camp a rival is taken part of. Urban's SoFla camp has UF... Mich in Orlando has Mia. These staff's aren't going to let schools just stroll around the state in hot beds like Dade and Tampa.

What can they do to stop it?

Good points by both of you. and i think you're both right. for us, while i would say HS football is on the up swing in the mid state, the ability to get in front of the sheer # of kids they will be able to by going out of state is a good thing for us. for a school like us that does depend on doing well in other states, whether or not a home state school attends or not doesn't matter...we're going to have to compete with them anyway.

in the end, it will still depend on whether or not you can get these kids to COME to your camps on campus, take visits...that's where the rubber meets the road. but with any good sales job, you know the funnel is WIDE at the top...and that's what these camps will do for us...it guarantees nothing mind you, but it sure won't hurt.

For some reasone I was thinking this was a no recruiting type deal. Meet, teach, and run drills, but no recruiting.

This will help us build the program we desire.

Jump higher Vols.

It's was all recruiting before. Now the NCAA has guidelines that visiting coaches spend a certain amount of time coaching a number of drills.

These satellite camps have to be a major pain in the ass for not only our coaching staff but all the coaches nationwide.

It would be best for football if the NCAA simply banned them... Again.

The thread around the NCAA has an article saying no direct recruiting can take place.

Interesting.

Jump higher Vols.

It's all about recruiting. They may not sit down and try to persuade a player but the eyeballs will be looking all around to see who passes the eye-test. The coaches can tell a lot about a kids behavior by watching them.

If there was talent in Ann Arbor, then the (coach) Harbinger of Satellite Camps wouldn't be doing satellite camps in Mid Tenn.

TN is starting to put out more talent, esp in the nashville metro and m'boro, and every major program sees it and is trying to make connections and build rapport with midstate coaches and players as they know the talent in the area will only continue to improve. Coach Harbaugh is a smart coach who sees this, and this is a good move if he plans on being at UM for a while. I have respect for Michigan, even if they are damned yankees with repulsive accents, but I don't want them stealing our players but from an objective standpoint, smart move by CHb.

Decades ago Michigan and Ohio (Ohio still cranks out some good talent and the Detroit area has its share of D1 players) were talent hubs...now with the demographic shift to the South, states like NC and TN are putting out bluechip players every year. Of course, GA (and the per capita kings, MS and AL) have been producing NFL talent, TN has not always been known to be a breeding ground for bluechips...however this has changed, and the instate talent will only continue to improve as more and more people move to Nashville. All the while, MI and OH are on the flip side of the demographic shift to the the Southern and Western states. Tennessee and NC will be putting out as much talent, if they're not already, as MI and Ohio within the next decade.
