All Freshman and JUCO transfers have a black stripe on their helmet for preseason practice. When a player has deemed himself worthy (Consistant Play, Showing Leadership, etc...), Butch will remove the players black stripe. It is used as a motivating tool for Freshman and JUCO newcomers.
