Technically, it was Major Kong that rode the bomb while Strangelove was in the War Room with the President, but otherwise, spot on analogyAbsolutely. Stay the course. This thinking is what has gotten us here. We make a bargain bin hire, the train goes off the rails, and the fans like you tell us to be patient while we, like Dr Strangelove, ride that bomb all the way down.
The one area that caused UT's loss to Alabama yesterday was 3rd downs. UT was running the ball decently and JG had time in the pocket for the most part. I agree with CJP that there was a difference in the way the Vols played Bama yesterday as compared to the past several years.Nah that's definitely concerning. I could be wrong, I just think it's a lazy argument. For instance:
2016, 2017, 2018 - losing to Vandy, Mizzou, SC + being blown out by a combo of Alabama, Georgia, Florida
2019, 2020 - beating Vandy, Mizzou, SC, Auburn, Miss St, Arkansas + being blown out by Alabama, Georgia, Florida
I'll take beating the perennial cellar teams as a sign of some progress is all. We all agree this isn't where we want to end up, but it's where we are anyway. I think the best thing for the program is manufacturing momentum anytime we get the chance - recruiting is one avenue for that, and has a direct impact to results in the fall.
Well said. I thought all along that this would be a 4 to 5 year rebuild. We have to be patient. Firing the coach only sets us back farther.Alabama has been a National Championship contender for many years in a row, including this one. UT has been middle of the pack in the SEC East, at best, over the same time frame.
UGA is also a contender. Kirby Smart took over a 10 win team and gave them the boost they needed to get where they are now. Thanks to Mark Richt building them, but that is irrelevant to the point I am trying to make, other than the fact that UT was not a 10 win team when CJP arrived...not even close.
Even Kentucky is better than they have been in decades, but I say they only beat UT because the Vols were shell shocked from the way they got beat down in the 2nd half of the Georgia game the week before. Not an excuse, but that's what I think happened. That said, Georgia was scared in the locker room at half time. That's why they came out on fire and UT was, not surprisingly overwhelmed. UT was competing with a NC contender.
I was hopeful the Vols would be better this year than last. It ain't over yet, and last season started off bad and turned out pretty good for a rebuilding team. Maybe this year will go the same way and the Vols will run the table the rest of the way.
Finally, to be calling for CJP's firing at this point is willful ignorance of the last several coaching changes UT football has endured. Have a little patience people. If you can't, maybe college football aint for you.
God Bless and Go Big Orange!
Dude, how are you not getting this? In Butch’s 3rd year we had Dobbs, Hurd, Kamara, Reeves-Maybin, Sutton, Barnett, Jennings, etc. All Butch’s recruits. Outside of To’o To’o, which of Pruitt’s guys would you put in the same sentence as the guys I mentioned?I guess I don't understand then. We do agree improvement is good right? Butch couldn't sustain his upgrades, but I'm not sure how that effects the trajectory of Pruitt? Particularly when the philosophies are in such contrast to each other. Butch was trying to make finesse work in the SEC, while Pruitt is trying to build the foundation in quality line depth. It's almost as if you're saying that it would be a red flag to be competing with nationally elite teams in year 3 of Pruitt, because that's what Butch Jones did and he failed.
