In all honesty--LOOK AT FINEBUTT--Do you really think that man has EVER worn a jockstrap???

He knows what it takes to build a championship FB team about as much as Hillary knows about telling the truth.

This year has proven that we lack the necessary quality in the 2-Deep to compete for championships in the SEC...

The SCe game showed us that we lack the offensive acumen to compete for championships in the SEC when you get out-coached and beaten by one of the worst offensive and defensive teams in the SEC....

This offseason will go a long way in determining CBJ's future at UT....honestly--I think he needs until 2018 to get a fair shake since his name is not Saban and he took over a dumpster fire of a program....

But I'd love to have Tom Herman from HOUSTON if he would consider being our coach....:salute:

Knocking Finebaum because he's never worn pads is ridiculous. He enjoys to throw shade at UT but there are other ways of discrediting the man.

May take Butch 7 years. He's probably correct if talking about himself. Although in this league he may never accomplish it. Takes a good coach in this league.

I agree with Finebaum on this and this is why. UT Athletics throws a lot of money at the football program as well as boosters. To require 7 years is asking a lot of patience from a fan base that's been waiting a decade. Believe me I was a freshman in 2005 when it all started falling apart. I want nothing more than a premier program, and I think 4 years is a lot of patience, and it's deserved with what he inherited. But really and truly,it's put up or shut up time.

does anyone know how rare it REALLY is for a coach to have what can be described as a successful tenure at a historical top 10-15 program and NOT have it rolling by year 3? I mean...I would almost say it is unheard of.

Look at the coaches at ut peer schools who meet that definition..coaches who replaced someone fired for lack of results at a historical top 10-15 program..who are we talking about?

in some order penn st michigan ohio st okla texas florida tennessee alabama usc fsu miami notre dame nebraska.

saban? meyer? Carroll? Stoops? Harbaugh? The right coach NEVER is a slow rebuild. I need to make a post that shows how what butch is saying is just bull****

Let's see - Longest tenured coach in the East, the best recruiting stretch over that span and the most experienced team. Still can't win the division. We've saw all we need to see.

Like him or not, that 7 yr talk is garbage.

I'm not defending Saturday night, it was pathetic and I'm just as pissed as anyone else, but we can't lose all perspective here. It took Bobby Bowden 23 years to win the national title as a head coach, it took Dean Smith 21 years to win a national title, it took Coach K 16 years as a head coach to win a title. Winning comes with time, it's not accepting mediocrity, but having the patience to see potential moving forward. I think making a change would be catastrophic for our fan base and program, mostly because I'm incredibly excited about next years team.

Never understood how Jones would understand what it takes to build a championship program as a head coach after he made that asinine comment.

He came in behind Kelly at CMU and Cincy and hasn't been a head coach anywhere for 7 seasons.

Finebaum was dead on in his assessment.

That being said, he sucks and Go Vols.

Finebaum is 100% correct and there are no excuses to lose to SCAR. They are a really bad team that we had no business looking as bad as we did Saturday.

Those coaches are in a league of their own, but there are very few elite coaches and most if not all aren't likely to move.

you understand there is a lot of space between mediocrity and winning a national title, right? FSU had been in the final top 5 every year for 10-12 yrs before they won..and fsu was a backwater with potential and nothing more when bowden took over. By year 3 I think it was he goes to nebraska and beats top 5 huskers, ends yr in orange bowl..

Can you think of ANY football coach who took over for a fired coach at a historical top 10-15 school like ut(I would say we are 10th overall) and who was successful at that school but DIDN'T have it rolling by year 3?

Since this is the premise of your post I would bet you have lots of examples..I will await your response.
