With our current Rivals score of 2602, we would have finished as following in the final ranking for the previous 5 years (assuming the scoring formula is the same):

2013 7th
2012 2nd (19 pts. behind Bama)
2011 2nd (30 pts. behind Bama)
2010 4th
2009 2nd (184 pts. behind Bama)

Kind of sounds like Jan Brady. Bama Bama Bama. OK I just dated myself. Yes I'm old.

The Pope says if you date yourself, you need to do 10 Hail Mary's and ask forgiveness :)

The formula changed after the 2012 class. All of your data, except for the 7th in 2013, is irrelevant.

Pissed me off too. I'm a big nerd and wrote a Matlab program that would read in a list of recruits and calculate the total points. Then the next year they changed the formula.

I've heard some say they tweaked it again for this class, does anyone know if that is really correct?

It hasn't been changed for 2014. It is actually pretty simple now. Our point total is somewhat penalized because of our JUCO guys, because the JUCO's don't get any bonus points. For example, if Pearson, Blair, Lambert, and Blair were all R250 guys that had a corresponding national rating like below, we would have an additional 110 team points. I personally don't have a problem with JUCO's being worth less, but that is the primary reason why we are lower than one would expect.

Pearson - #50
Blair - #100
Lambert - #150
Weatherd - #220

Also, we are in a bizarre situation where our final ranking depends on whether or not teams like OSU and LSU lose 5 stars like Reakwon McMillan and Leonard Fournette to Alabama. So, in the perfect storm for our team ranking, say we could get up to #3, but that would mean that Alabama would have gotten 3 more 5* on their way to assembling the highest rated class in history.

I don't know which is a better situation.

Here is what I can tell you - barring losing any of our commits - we should end up 2nd on Rivals this year. Nobody else is in on enough 4 and 5 stars to catch us.

Florida State and Ohio State will likely fight it out for 3rd

F State likely picks up 3 to 4 4 stars - Ohio state picks up 1 5 star and 2 4 stars. Auburn can pick up as many as 4 4 stars - Notre Dame 3 more 4 stars likely.

Florida, Georgia, Texas A & M 2 4 stars, 1 4 star, and 1 4 star likely to be added.

Based on this and assuming we don't lose anyone of importance - I am predicting we finish 2nd on Rivals - I think we also finish 2nd on Scout.

I feel like I am banging my head against a wall.

LSU is an absolute lock to finish 2nd. OSU will finish 3rd if they land Raekwon McMillon.

Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Georgia would be battling for the final 2 spots in the top 5. Notre Dame and Auburn should be right behind that group.

There is a slight chance we can finish 3rd, but Ohio State would have to miss on some guys that I don't think they are going to miss on.

Best situation IMO, saban keeps things quiet till the day after NSD, then takes the tx job. bamas #1 class falls apart as 1/2 the class bails out of their NLI's to find somewhere else to play. Pretty sure they can do that within a certain time period IF the HC leaves.

I didn't check on LSU originally so now that I do - I couldn't agree more - they are a lock for number 2.

I would remove Georgia and Florida from the battle for third - they just aren't in on enough guys imo. So Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A & M would be battling for 3 through 5 imo.

I also agree Auburn and Notre Dame come in just behind the 3 to 5 battle.

Hey we are not done yet we might start kicking some of them 3 stars to the curb for a high 4 star or 5 star, you got to do what you got to do just look at the ones on top, might be a little dirty rather be at the top and dirt on my face than at the bottom with a clean looking face.

Imo we will also either finish 2nd or 3rd on Scout which this year is probably a truer read on the 34/35 in this class.
