A few key questions...

  • Can Christie continue a resurgence of his campaign now that he is back on the primary stage?
  • Will any of the other subs (Kasich, Fiorina, Bush, Paul) make progress tonight?
  • Could this be the last hope for Carson and it becomes a 3 man race?
  • Will Trump stumble tonight amid potential attacks from others opening the door for someone else?

There's also the pre-debate at 6:00 with Huckabee, Graham, Santorium and Pataki which should be a real snoozer.

I think after tonight the classifications will be as follows:

Frontrunner: Trump

Second tier, but with a measurable chance: Cruz, Rubio

Third tier, but lurking with the establishment begging him to catch fire: Bush

Fourth tier, and at this point just sucking up oxygen: Christie, Fiorina

I expect fireworks between Trump and Cruz. We all know how butthurt the Donald gets when he starts losing. I'm not sure Cruz is as vulnerable as his other targets, since they're appealing to a similar crowd.

Rubio needs another strong performance. He'll be in the race to the end, but needs to convince people that he's the best option as far as being conservative and electable.

Carson's campaign is dying, and he simply isn't capable of making any moves in a debate setting.

Jeb! should drop out. He's wasting a ton of money to be polling at 4-5%.

Christie has to be the dark horse. He's going for the New Hampshire strategy and is doing well there. He's usually strong in debates as well.

Kasich has been neutered by Trump, but I think he'll continue to toot the same horn he has been.

Fiorina is done.

I'm glad Rand got into the debate, but if the last one didn't give him any traction I'm not sure what will. Good to have a differing perspective on the stage, though.

Just my thoughts.

My predictions?

LG will giggle and give a bunch of "pshaw's!"

Trump will be vague.

I suspect Rand and Cruz and Rubio will get into it.

Bush will yet again put someone to sleep (likely me)

Fiorina will continue to do her school marm act.

LG will scoff at something completely irrelevant.

Trump will claim he got picked on.

I'll watch Megyn Kelly for post debate coverage.

I think the two Cubans will go after each other. Rubio called Cruz an Isolationist. Cruz will have to refute that accusation. Rubio will again hit Cruz on the bulk phone data collection issue.

Trump, Carson, and Paul will be questioned about their threats to run as a third party candidate or leave the Republican party.

Trump continues to totally dominate the national polls. I think he made a Mistake, though, in attacking Cruz on the childish, "doesn't get along well with others" charge. Which candidate will mention that this evening?

And, how damn Annoying will John Kasich be tonight?

While ordinarily the charge that he does not get along with others in the Senate would be no big deal (they aren't there to make friends), Cruz' antagonism to the rest of the Senate has him near legendary status now as simply a grade A a$$hole.

As Trump has said, if you call leadership in the Senate a liar, and grandstand on their backs, that doesn't say a lot about your ability to work within the confines of the system we have (like it or not).

As I say, ordinarily, meh, whatever. But in the extreme case of Cruz, the criticism seems accurate and meaningful.

I was listening to Cruz talk about the Middle East earlier today. Surprisingly lucid compared to Rubio's constant beating of the war drums.

Going into tonight's debate, Donald Trump has a bigger lead in national polls over his opponents, than Hillary Clinton has over Bernie Sanders.

Clinton's support seems to have stagnated, while Trump continues to Surge in the polls. The media has repeatedly told us that Trump would not reach 20%, then 25%, then they said there was no way in hell Trump would break 30%. Trump now sits at 38% - 41%, depending on which poll you want to use. The media, both Liberal and conservative, just can't understand how Angry the voters are.

Also, Donald Trump has a bigger lead in national polls than Ronald Reagan did in 1980, and George H W Bush in 1988.

This will undoubtedly be an election like we haven't seen in decades, if ever. I'm ready for someone who'll completely shake up both parties as I think that's what we need right now. Most politicians have gotten much to complacent.
