Final Jahmai Mashack appreciation post

The greatest on-ball defender to play at Tennessee. Your tenacity was unmatched! You've always been willing to do the dirty work, but as Vitale described it, you make winning plays. You do what is necessary to contribute to winning regardless what role that meant you had to serve in. You probably could have left for a more ball-dominant, scoring role at another program, but you stayed committed to Tennessee, your coaches, and teammates. I honestly don't know how Tennessee is going to look without you and Zeigler plcausing havoc in the backcourt. Your presence will surely be missed! Thank you for being a vol.

How fortunate to have him in Knoxville for 4 years! Could easily have transferred back west to be closer to family. I remember him saying he did all of his recruiting via Zoom—he signed without ever visiting Knoxville! He is just an incredible human being, so selfless, and an amazing leader on and off the court. He is going to do incredible things with his life—this will not be the last time we hear his name.

I’m not sure we will ever see a defensive duo like him and ZZ on the court together. There is NO QUIT in JM. Obviously his health struggles at such a young age have been carried with him throughout his career. What a fighter. Thank you Mashack! VFL!

True Volunteer in every sense of the word. It’s been fun watching his dogged defense game after game over the last 4 seasons!

Excellent person and great competitor. Two back to back Elite 8s - three Sweet Sixteens in a row.

I’m proud of this team and these players - thank you for a great season.

My favorite moment was the post game press conference.
He said all he wanted to do was make coach Barnes proud, the guys beside him proud and Vol nation proud.
I am proud that Jahmai wore the orange and white for 4 years!
You made us all proud shack and if anyone says otherwise, Florida is still dancing, go route for them.

The entire team played hard all year. I loved this team, the key is building on this and realizing where we need to improve from here to get to the final hurdle. It is tough making a final 4, Barnes is plenty good enough to get us there with the right group and fortune. Anybody that gripes about talking about the things that will get us to the next level can go kick rocks. GBO!!!! Thanks to all the seniors that left it all on the floor. And especially Mashack who left it all on the floor his entire career.
