It sounds like Fulmer was very impressed with Parrish, Gaines and Marsalous Johnson's efforts in the Spring. Sounds like there is going to be a real battle there between them and the newcomers which usually equates to quicker progression and more preparedness. Whoever starts is going to be good enough to get the job done IMO.

Prepare for the attack from lawgator about posting comments regarding practice in the offseason....

Hefney said - "We've got talent". What did you expect him to say?

Careful. If you point out that these are the same tired statements you hear every year from the same people (or people in the same positions), then you get labeled as irrational, flaming, trolling, no fun, unrealistic, etc.

Please either advance the thread or move on. :hi:

I thought I was advancing it. I could say something like, yeah, but what about their inexperience, or, gosh your safeties are all so short. Instead, I figured to be more subtle, and ask simply what do you expect Fulmer and the senior players to say?

One good thing is that several Vols have a lock on making the All-Midget Secondary, First Team.

Not a single coach at SEC media days this week will say anything that they've not already said. No news there. It baffles me that two or three hundred members of the media will bother to show up.

Well, to some degree this whole conversation -- and your 100% accurate remark -- all fold into earlier discussions we have had about the fact that sports "reporting" is really not reporting or hunting for news, at all. Sports reporters look for either classic quotes to reassure the fans that their team is progressing, or better yet, one line zingers a la Spurrier.

If sports "reporters" really showed up for media day, they'd corner Meyer and relentlessly ask him about the discplinary problems at UF, whether he is being too lax, whether he feels like he has to recruit and give breaks to kids with questionable judgment to make the team athletic, etc.

But he won't get many questions like that, and certainly none will be hard-hitting.

At last a reasonable point.

I respect you LG, but I honestly did not know what you hoped to accomplish by bashing the rhetoric of the season.

I was hoping that people would stop running around pointing with glee at these fluff pieces by local sports "reporters" and go, "See? Fulmer says our new guys are really athletic this year and that they are learning fast!! Gosh, we are going to be good this year!!"

Same with Florida fans.

The rhetoric is bad enough. People getting exctied by it, for the umpteenth time, is just pathetic.

I just don't get this. Why do you feel the need to tell everybody how they should interpret preseason reports? Everybody understands that they are laced with cliches, empty rhetoric and coachspeak, but every once in awhile there's interesting information in there. Besides, it's what we've got right now.

I'm giving up because the folks that do in fact see it for what it is, like you and the other regulars, don't need me to point it out to you while those that buy into it AGAIN don't want to hear it.
