Field goals this year

For 2016 season, he got a new nickname...Aaron 'Money' Medley.

After his 3-4 field goals per game, we'll play his walk-off song. Heard POS out working on it today...

I love the idea of a kicker having an intro song...someone should make this happen. Legs from ZZ Top - of course we'll need some editing

I think having Medley do a lot of kicks outside his range may mess with his confidence and that could sometimes be adverse to his performance on what should be his gimme kicks. Sometimes, though, (the FL game), he's our last hope. We put him in a situation where he could be a hero but the odds may not be in his/our favor.

Looking at all those dots in your chart, I think they are wide right. :birgits_giggle:

Not sure, don't recall. I know he didn't miss any time due to it. As a fan of the program, what I do recall more than anything else is him starting the season 8 of 17 last year vs the best teams on our schedule during the most important stretch of games ....not good.

No not good at all, I know he didn't miss any time due to do it as far as that goes. Here's to hoping he gets better in the pressure situations. May need him to win it for us September 24th.

We do indeed need him to be better. Hope my posts about Aaron don't come off as overly negative. I'm really not trying to dog the kid but rather to just have an honest discussion about him. Unfortunately, there's not a ton to be positive about after 2 seasons. But make no mistake, I'm pulling like crazy for this kid to improve his accuracy from 40+ yds.

Some food for thought from an old SDS article.

"If Aaron Medley, had made all of his field goal attempts this season, Tennessee might be undefeated. In Tennessee’s loss to Oklahoma, Medley missed a 48-yarder in the third quarter that would have given Tennessee a 17-point lead. Against Florida, Medley missed a 55-yard, game-winning field goal attempt on the last play of the game. Against Arkansas, Medley missed a 28-yarder that would have given Tennessee a 17-7 lead and kept the momentum in Tennessee’s favor. In the loss to Alabama, Medley missed three kicks – from 43 yards out and two 51-yarders. Though it’s hard to blame Medley for Tennessee’s 3-4, his missed field goals have killed Tennessee’s momentum and given opposing offenses good field position."

That 28 yarder against Arkansas really hurt. Amazing how much a kicker can influence a season.

I hate that argument. What if any of those opponents returned the ensuing kickoff back for a TD after the made field goals? How many of the opponents' possessions right after the missed field goals resulted in points? It's not so easy as saying "if he makes them we win".

A good one is that it's not in chunks before November. They ought to not be so concerned about keeping it green after the growing season ends.

Not at all. We all want to see these kids succeed. I'd rather talk to someone that don't wanna piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

You are aware that after a missed field goal the opponent takes over possession and has a chance to score right? Just like if we made the kick. The only difference is field position and we don't have 3 points. Oh, and missed field goals absolutely murder momentum. Against Florida and Oklahoma I think it is close to 100% if he makes them we win. Florida is 100% no way around that one it was the last play of the frickin game.

Butch should have never put Medley in on that last kick against Florida. We'd have had better odds doing anything else than letting Medley try. He was struggling the whole game and Butch still put all his eggs in that basket. I'm still baffled by that decision to this day.

Just to be clear this is more of a complaint for Butch than dogging Medley.

We have some excellent kickers living in the Knoxville area. (Some with Pro careers) Let's hire one of them to work as a kicking coach.

I don't think he had much of a choice at that point Coug since he had so badly mismanaged the clock. Now, the odds were strongly against him there given all Medley's struggles thus far in his career at UT. But it's either let him try a kick or let Dobbs try to throw it to the endzone for a miracle grab....either way we were screwed....we had already eff'd up yet another Florida game.
