Field conditions

Did it appear to y'all that the field conditions affected us more than Purdue? It sure did to me.

It was ridiculous = even during warm ups guys were falling and sliding all over the place. I knew once the game started we were going to have problems. Shame on us for not getting longer cleats on our guys - if that's still a thing that you can do.

Roger Frazier, Tennessee long time equipment manager, missed his first game since 1981 that night. Perhaps that had something to do with it, or maybe it didn't. But since he was there for that citrus bowl a few years ago when the Vols beat Ohio State after going with longer cleats during the second half? I would think he would have fixed that had he been at the MCB.

Eric Ainge said that's a thing of the past due to current shoe technology.

Today's Titan's Game will confirm the field conditions from Thursday Night.
I will be willing to Bet that the field will be in Much Better Shape than Thursday and that the Staff held off getting the field Game ready due to the MCB.
It Rained heavily on Saturday so this will be a challenge to prepare, but we will see.
IOW, I don't think they Prep the field for the MCB because of the $$$$

The Titans really need to switch to Field Turf and get rid of the natural grass like every other NFL team not in FL

I did see a couple of times Purdue slipped, but it mainly looked like a TN problem. Not sure why....

What's most disturbing about the accusation is "how in the hell did another coach get a hold of cleats worn by one of our players?" Seems someone within the organization would have had to pass them along.
I doubt if he really had Kent's shoe. I seem to remember we didn't issue any denials though.

I’m good friends with a few ppl that work in operations at Nissan stadium and they laid down new grass right after the MCB… field was terrible and absolutely affected the team with more speed (UT) more than Purdue… our players were sliding every play…

That field was ridiculously bad, borderline dangerous. Our guys were slipping all over the place. I didn't notice Purdue slipping so much. Missing our equipment manager may have a little more to do with the bad footing than given credit.

Nissan Stadium field crew should be very embarrassed for how they prepared that field for a bowl game. It looked worse than a practice field.

It appeared to me to have an overseed of winter rye grass. Even on golf courses that chose to do this (less and less are nowadays) it can be very slippery and almost take on a sheen effect which can be tricky. CLEARLY it was a major issue for the Vols.

I was just watching the TItans and the color analyst just commented on the much maligned field.

Based on my eyes IMO Purdue offense wasn't that slow compared to our snail paced defense. Both teams played on the same field.

Having been on football staffs for 30 plus years I learned from a great coach and man early in my career,

1. Blame yourself and teams play for losses and not outside excuses. Losers make excuses...winners don't have to.
2. Never let the refs have to make a decision..ie don't fumble and let them decide who got the ball....On a pass don't let them decide if it's a catch or non catch.....If it's 3rd-4th and a yard don't just get the yard and let them decide if it' a first down or short...etc.etc. You will lose the majority if you make them decide.
3. Never piss off the band boosters.

yep. They could add so much more there - HS games, band competitions, drum corp competitions. The rumor I always heard was that Jeff Fisher didnt want it. Well, he's gone so lets make the move
Either that or get a domed stadium closer to lower broad

I think because Tennessee is a more east west running and Purdue is north and south. That and a slippery field is advantage to the players that know where they are going and a disadvantage to Hooker who makes cuts on the fly.
