FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026 International Basketball

On a per minute basis, Clark was very good.
Her first stretch of playing time in the game was dismal but hitting that big 3 pointer at the end of the first half seemed to get her in the groove. Her 2nd half was quite good. Angel contributed some big defensive plays but Stewie, Yoing, Gray were the lifeline players to close the deficit when it looked like the game might get away.

Last but not least, Kara did a great job managing the roster.

I agree with this. Earlier I tried to post a nice clip that showed how tenacious Reese was guarding on the perimeter, pestering the opponent and affecting the action twice before finally, on the third effort, forcing the opponent to make a mistake that sent the ball out of bounds, a turnover that gave the U.S. possession. This was all Reese’s effort.

She may have less-than-stellar shot mechanics, but she more than makes up for that (Imo) with everything else she seems to enjoy doing to affect the game.

Kara is an awful coach. Tried to tune in to multiple games. Completely unwatchable offense. It was sickening to see that many talented players being so poorly coached.

If a person watches any game. any sport that includes the best adult athletes from different teams playing together - it becomes obvious the players perform with years of experience and very little bench coaching.

Lawson made the decision early to put the most experienced in International five on the floor for the majority of each close game. that IMO was her primary coaching decision.

In contrast the last Olympic team contained several players who were no longer at their prime, and they nearly lost in part by giving those players minutes.

Looked awful all week. Terrible rotations, boring play, lots of 1 on 1. Garbage.

Why are you going so hard on Kara? TeamUSA had an undefeated run to a gold medal and wound up dominating a French team that many pundits picked to win it all. They averaged almost 90 per game and had the best defensive stats in the tournament.

And they did this without the best player in the world A'Ja Wilson.

Yes, the team's 3 point shooting was quite poor (I will blame some of that problem on FIBA's weird ball). If they had shot a more expectable %, they would have averaged close to 100 a game.

Nice take:
It was. I was curious why Page hardly played and this vid provides a reasonable explanation though Kara seemed to be moving away from her in the semifinal game as well.

I saw another take that showed the USA just plain out hustled France in the 2nd half. They won every 50-50 ball and just played harder.

So happy that they brought home another gold for the USA! They really just took the game from France with determination and grit. France seemed to not know what hit them. I'm fan of Kara Lawson and feel that she did her job, they won gold. The team did look flat most of the time and I'll admit the games weren't as exciting as WNBA games. I feel that some, if not most, of it came from lack of chemistry (time to play together). It's a short turnaround. Let's not forget A'ja would've added another level for the team, especially with JYo and Gray on the floor (familiarity). I'd also enjoy seeing Paige, CC, and A'ja on the floor together as well.

Question about ball size 29.5 diameter for men and 28.5 for women for USA teams. someone mentioned wierd basketball in FIBA. what is the size of balls used in Olympics or European etc. thanks

Same size, weight, and bounciness. Fiba Ball has more panels (12 vs 8) and less grippy feel.

I must admit I'm not the Kara Lawson fan I once was (I won't get into all that), but I thought she did a solid job with this team. I for one thought there was a good chance France would win it - they were legit. But the U.S. rose to the occasion when they needed to, and you have to give her props for that.
