the real question is. . . is she right?

"If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” she said, according to an article published in the Daily Breeze. “And if he was a woman of any color he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.”

one of the posters on the blog makes a very interesting argument:

11:15 am Oh come on now - its not like it isn’t true.

We’re talking about a man who’s close to 50 years of age and has no professional or politicalr record to stand on for pete’s sake.

The best thing that can be said about Obama is that he isn’t caught up in a sex scandal - other than that he is simply just another mediocre politician who will and who has said whatever it takes to get elected.

He’s made no strong political stances on anything - NOT ON ANYTHING.

He’s against the war — but wait - he’s also voted against taking troops out.

He’s for bi-partisan committees and solutions but don’t expect to actually attend those committee meetings.

He wanted to chair a Subcommittee - but he didn’t want to chair any of the meetings of that Subcommittee - just the title please thank you very much.

Obama is an empty suit. And he is darned lucky to be where he is — and he wouldn’t be where he is if it weren’t for the strength of his wife not himself his wife. She’s the go-getter in that family, she’s the main breadwinner and she’s the one with the real career.

Hard to say. Currently, his race may be a net positive but who's to say if it helped/hindered/had no effect of him getting into this position.

If you listen to GF's words, you also see the allegations of sexism. Hard for me to reconcile how she would see his race helping him in a racist society when she argues at the same time Hillary's (and her's) sex hurts her in a sexist society. A bit inconsistent if you ask me.

I do think that many of those people who are supporting obama because he is black (and let's be fair there are some where this is the deciding factor) are the same people that would probably support hillary if she was competing against a white male because she is a woman.

I love it - they are using the race card on each other.

Just saw Geraldine defending her comments with the "I've been a tireless supporter of civil rights..." line. At least she didn't say "some of my best friends are black"

Obama Campaign Criticizes Ferraro Comments - The Caucus - Politics - New York Times Blog

If a republican made these comments, there would be massive retribution. It's getting ridiculous.

I agree. I would suggest though that there is likely a different group supporting Hillary just because she is a woman. Look at all the crap Oprah took because she was perceived to choose race over gender.

GF's point I think was more about the media giving Obama a pass because he's black but attacking Hillary because she's a woman. As was stated in another thread - it's a case of victim vs. victim. I'd have more respect for GF's comment if she weren't playing the sexism card.
