Holy smokes guys and gals!
I can't believe this day finally came. I thought we got a teaser in 2016 after UGA, but this is legit the first time in 18 years (I'm 33 btw) of being in a football season where I felt going into any game that Tennessee is capable of going toe to toe with anyone in the country.
This game to me personally had such a mixing bowl of battered Vol memories. Wilhoit missing a PAT / McGrath missing PAT.... Ainge getting hurt before half on hail mary / Heupel pulling Hooker for Milton before half. Have a chance in 2022 to sweep our Big 3 / 2004 we beat #11 on game winning FG, we beat Alabama by 4, and we go to Athens and pull the upset.
My first memory of UT football was basically at 2000.... It has been a long road, but hot dam I never thought in my adult life that we'd see a team and coach where we would be confident in saying we can compete with anyone.
But this is the first time in a long time where the bandaid has been ripped off. Hell we have a what, 5 year streak vs UGA to break, but that feels like a nothing burger.....
I can honestly say this is the first time in 18 seasons where I felt Tennessee has the team to compete with anyone in the country. Even when Bama had the scoop and score, I had a weird calm because we were down 1 possession and our offense was going right back on the field. This is a very weird feeling, but I feel a tingling coming that is familiar.
I never felt that way in 2016 as it felt like a magical, lucky season through the first 5 games even in one possession games. Also prolly had to do with Butch never being anything close to the X and O's coach that Hype is. I think that is the biggest difference between those two teams....
All I know is our floor is now 11-1.... The pollsters will most definitely make UGA vs TENN a 1v2 matchup. Getting over Bama means at worst we are 11-1 come SEC Championship weekend and we are sitting inside the Top 6....
GO VOLS.
