Since we already have a favorite player thread going, let's take it up a notch and list favorite ut teams.

For me , there's obviously the '98 squad. But the '85 sugarvols also have a special place in my heart. That season was beyond magical and a one of a kind.

I agree that the trip to the Sugar Bowl, with the commentators raving about Miami before the game and then UT killing them, was pretty awesome for a Vol fan.

The 2001 Vols.

Casey Clausen looked great then.

We had Donte Stallworth, Kelly Washington, Jason Witten, Travis Stephens etc...

Oh so close to a National Championship Game app. against Miami.

Which would have been a great game considering most think Miami may have been the best team in the history of College Football.

Teams '95-97, Any team that had Peyton on it was just fun to watch. '95- Beating Ohio St. in the Citrus Bowl and '97 ripping UGA up in Knoxville, Jamal Lewis running wild on them.....AWESOME!

Gotta go with 1985 and 1998 NC Teams. The Sugar Bowl win v. Miami has to be the best single game in UT history.

The 1998 team was so much fun to watch. I got to attend both the Florida and Arkansas games that year - I knew then it wasn't ever going to be better than that.

Can't get better than 1998 season
Likely the best UT teams ever were (1) 1969 and (2) 1990
maybe some of the Neyland teams

Was 2001 the year we trounced Michigan in the post season? If so, I'm down for 2001.

I won a $5 bet from my cousin (Michigan grad) on that game. He delivered in the form of 500 pennies dumped on my bed.

The best part was finding a few old coins in there which I sold for much more than face value.

The 1997 Tennessee team will always hold a special place in my heart, because it was the team when I saw my first game at Neyland, and winning that SEC Championship was magical, no matter how ugly the game was against Auburn. Also, the quarterback of that team was my hero.

Honestly, I really liked the 2004 team. Not much was expected of them, and they weren't really all that good. The defense was bad and the offense was inconsistent.

However, that team grinded out 5 close wins, and that 10 point SEC title game loss to Auburn was closer than the score. Granted, a 10-3 season at Tennessee is usually not fantastic, but with that team's grit, they exceeded expectations and played their hearts out.
