I was wondering who the fastest players will be on the team this season. I'm guessing on offense it's Ty Candler or Latrell Williams. On defense, I'm not really sure, Nigel Warrior, he certainly looks faster than anyone else on defense. What do y'all think?

Pretty sure Thompson is right? Didn't they say he is a speedster?

Ty candler.

Really neat cause the meaning is the same. A chandler makes candles.

What does a candler do? Same thing i guess. Everything is illuminated.

Probably Byrd. His gps numbers last I saw were unreal

I'd give the nod to Byrd over Chandler on offense. Chandler was a sprint track star in hs. I'd give the nod to Warrior on defense but a new guy over there could come in and surprise everybody.

I watched Thompson on the local news (Outta' Columbia, SC) for the last couple of years...his junior and senior seasons...and, let me tell y'all, he's fast alright. Really fast! It's been big time sour grapes 'round these parts since the youngster flipped over to our Vols...just when he was s'posed to lay the mojo on the paper with them chickens. This kid's something special, boys and girls. If he keeps his head straight and doesn't get injured, he'll most likely wind up playing on Sundays. Overall, and although it'll get much better with a couple more recruiting classes, UT's going to wind up with size and speed pretty much equal to the '97 and '98 teams. Nothing's wrong with being optimistic about CJP's system. Let's get ready to party!

You better have 10-15 guys that can run a 4.4 if you’re going to win in the SEC

By the high school coach hand timing them?

We could have that already. Remember that Guarantano clocking the 4.45? Do you believe it? Unfortunately no one really has that team speed, not from electronic timing. Landry Jones was 4.78 in high school, combine revealved a 5.11.

You talking 4.40-to-4.49 i assume. A sub 4.5 40. Even that is hard to achieve, if possible at all. Cause if you are talking literal....10-15 running a 4.4.....well there weren't that many (15) in all the entire 2018 college football draft class.

12 ran 4.4 or quicker. 12 of them.

This. Other than height, the 40 time is the most exaggerated statistic published about players at every level. There just are not that many guys who play football at any position that can go sub 4.5 back to back.

A healthy Latrell Williams is probably the fastest and Byrd is not far behind. Hopefully Thompson is at least that fast.

What about Alontae Taylor; how fast is he?

We've all herd about these numbers from him. But he has never looked closed to breaking a long TD.

You don't get that fear from him that he will run past the defense before you look up!

Callaway is more explosive on the field.

Chandler gets the nod on offense imo.

Defense? Warrior...or maybe Alontae Taylor.

This sounds accurate. Gaulden was all over the field last season and looked to be the fastest player on defense for the Vols. Gaulden ran a 4.6 for the NFL scouts.

Just from watching them play, I would guess that UT only has a handful of guys that run 4.5 or below. Most of the skill guys on offense and defense run 4.6 -4.7.

Byrd, Williams, Warrior, Taylor and Chandler are the sub 4.5 guys. I would guess that Chandler is probably the only kid that is 4.4 or quicker on this team. If there is anyone faster than him, I'd be very surprised. Maybe, Williams. We will see what the new guys can do this season.

Definitely Williams. In a straight line he is one of the fastest in the SEC for sure. Dude can flat out burn. If he can be a good route runner...look out!

I remember when he committed and everyone was watching his highlights, several posters on here thought the tape had been sped up. It had not...dude can leave a vapor trial. Can't wait to see him get loose a few times this year.

Time - Time - Time.... Means little or nothing.

Line um up and let um run. The winner is the fastest. Lots of guys will run faster if pushed by a faster or as fast a guy. Likewise, some fast guys press to hard when challenged and lose. The fastest is the guy that wins the race, not the guy "timed" as the winner.

Yeah we dont have an abundance of team speed.

From watching them play the usual suspects listed are probably the best guesses....latrell williams, chandler.

We've been remarkably slow at the safety position under butch. There's something i hope to sea change. Think about it,

Brian randolph, ladarell mcneil, todd kelly jr, micah Abernathy.

Unfortunately safety is where we been hiding those deceptively slow players that may not be sEC quality.

Apologies to players listed and warrior (for any unfortunate association) some mentioned were some of my favorites vols.

A curious note which seems to help devalue noncombine 40 times. Brain randolph ran a 4.40 flat at our 2016 pro day while vonn pearson ran a 4.8. Pig ran a 4.62.

The massive drop off in strength and conditioning during butchs stay is highlighted by that pro day, though.
Randolph did 21 reps of 225, ran a 4.4 flat (still dont believe that tho) and owen williams did 42 reps of 225.

Compare that with the paltry #'s from last years vol nfl prospects.
