We're all extremely disappointed in the lopsided loss to WV, but in all honesty it was expected. While we had hoped to see the Vols put up more of a fight against the Mountaineers. It was readily apparent that they were outmatched by a more talented football team and perhaps that's what hurt the most.

Emotions run extremely high with the start of every football season, even when last year's team was labeled the worst in Tennessee history.
I completed in competitive sports for a good portion of my life, but like many Vol fans, sometimes forget, that as let down as we were about the game, it's the players that shoulder the loss and suffer the most.
The players are the ones that have put in the hard work of training, lifting weights, running and struggling to be the best that they can be.

I sometimes forget as a fan, that no one was as disappointed in the loss, as the players that were on the field last Saturday.

Behind the scenes, Pruitt and the Vols are working their tails off to become the team we all want them to be.

Go Vols

It’s understandable to lose to a Top 25 team with left over players that don’t fit your system.

Next year should give us a better indication on how this team will progress under Pruitt after his 1st recruiting class.

Yes, the loss was disappointing especially for the players and coaches. But, the coaches and player don't have the luxury of wallowing in that disappointment all week afterwards. They are busy making necessary adjustments to correct the mistakes and put a better effort on the field this Saturday. The next game is two days away, and I am excited to see the improvements, even though it is ETSU, that are made. Like our team, let's focus on the upcoming game.

Regardless of the final score, I expected more physicality and intensity from our team. I expected to see a team fired up to prove that last year's 4-8 season was a fluke and show everybody that we are better than what the record showed. I expected to see a team with a "killer" instinct that would swarm to the ball on defense and maul people on the O-Line. However I didn't see any of that at all on Saturday. I saw a team that looked lethargic and flat out weren't mentally focused and ready to play this game. How in the world do you come out this way on the first game of the season? That IS on coaching. Compare this game to say, the 2014 Oklahoma game. It was clear that OU was better than we were talent wise, but we played hard in that game and laid licks until the final whistle. THAT is what I wanted to see in this first game but we didn't show up to play. Would it have made a difference on the scoreboard? I don't know. However that is what disappointed me and what I can't get out of my head. We didn't look properly prepared for this game.

Coach has a bunch of guys that don't fit his program that was on one of the worst teams in school history. We start out against a top Heisman candidate and a solid ranked WV team. If we look awful this week against ETSU then we have some REAL concerns. Don't let week 1 ruin any hope for the season.

P.S.: It's not like any realist thought we was going to be a 9 or 10 win team this season.

Pruitt has his work cut out to keep the team from getting down on themselves, for that reason, I think you'll see him continue to take responsibility for their mistakes, especially this early in the season.

There is maybe one guy on our starting 22 that would start for any other SEC school. That is what CBJ left us with

That's silly. Unless you meant we only have 1 guy that would start for EVERY other SEC team. If you didn't mean that, you're basically saying that 21 of our 22 starters are the worst at their respective positions in the entire conference, which is absurd.

Tough team to start the season with. This would have been a good year to play a lesser team like a lot of the SEC teams did in the first game.

Yeah, but if we had blown out a cupcake in game 1, as fans we would have a way overblown opinion on how good our team actually is, like the fans of several other SEC teams are feeling right now after blowing out cupcakes last Saturday. While the loss sucked, as any loss does, the fans, but more importantly the staff and players, learned a whole lot more about the team's strengths and weaknesses last Saturday, and the team as a whole now knows where it is and what needs to be done to improve. Now we have 2 weeks against lesser teams to work on some of those issues before SEC play begins.

I think we'll see an offense that throws the ball deep many times this weekend, they know they will have to be able to go deep to win in the SEC, it should be fun to watch, at least this weekend.

Outside of Vandy, I don’t think we have anyone other than one that would start st any SEC school over what they have now.

Unfortunately, the ceiling may not be very high for this team, after all these are mostly the same players that were responsible for the 4-8 season of doom.
Only time will tell what they are capable of.

They may not start for the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU, but come on. Any other SEC team? You're serious saying none of our players would start for Kentucky, Vandy, Missouri, Ole Miss, Arkansas?

What was fascinating was watching the Jeremy Pruitt show afterwards. He could immediately point out the one missed assignment that would cause an entire play to be blown up on O or D.

Attention to details is an old cliche phrase but it is extremely important for UT to master. If we could avoid that one missed assignment or mistake, the WV game would've been a much closer ballgame. Hopefully CJP can work out those kinks before the Florida game.

You always have in the back of your mind that coaches can and have won with inferior teams. Spurrier led Duke team comes to mind, not luck just a good game plan utilizing his few talented players skills and gutsy play calling. There are many other examples but with UT its always lack of talent.
