I have heard a number of people today on sports talk radio call in and talk about fans and media being the issue. Talking about the negativity of the fans and media driving recruits away, and dragging down the confidence of this team. So what happened during the Florida game? The fans and media were all behind this team. We were ranked, and we were back. This town was buzzing and it felt like the late 90's again. Then, this team quit. They gave up. They got hit in the mouth by a good Florida team, and they ran from the fight. So next time someone says it's the fans and media, everyone remember the day the fans and media were all behind this team, and they quit.

don't let people sell you that line of bull.

we had fireronzook.com for crying out loud.

any coach worth a crud wants to be at a school that cares and will pay because they care. because places that care present opportunities to win.

this "the fans are the problem" is a bunch of nonsense. i'm sure potential head coach candidates for tennessee will be shocked that fans were not happy with losing

The media has reported the situation. Dooley has a losing record, lost to a really bad Kentucky team after his team quit on him, lost his big game against FLA, hasn't won an SEC game of significance, and has the worst defense in the history (110+ years of football). Do people want the media to pretend the situation is better? Or do you expect them to preface every report with, "Three years ago he inherited a bad situation, so these losses are not really his fault."

I am in Mobile, so I can't weigh in on the media or fans in Knoxville right now. But I can tell you, when Mike Shula was at Alabama, the fans and media were ruthless about him and his program as they should have been.

People are looking for someone or something to blame rather than blaming the actual problem. If fans didn't respond to mediocrity, they'd complain about that too.

Solid post. There is no right or wrong way to be a fan, fans have personalities in life just like people. Just like you will not like every person you meet, you will also not like every Vol fan.

See some say wanting to get rid of Dooley is being a "NegaVol" and I think settling for him is what a true "NegaVol" would do.

I do not usually agree with Gator fans, but in this case, I'll make the exception... and agree. The FL fan base had their drawers tied in a knot with Ron Zook, "Fire him!" "Keep him!" Sounds kinda familiar somehow... you know, like I heard it somewhere today.

Anyway, have a great evening ><>

Didn't seem to hurt Saban. He finished first in recruiting his first year after losing to la Monroe, multiple Shula players arrested for assault, even one player was selling drugs from the football facility. And the media blasted him for leaving Fl and making reference to Hitler in press conferences. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is great coaches respond to adversity.

People with money and who pay the bills have a right to complain. Even though that is politically incorrect in this era.

There would be nothing worse for this program than a disenfranchised fan base when you have a large empty stadium.

Losing to UF was not in any way connected to the current level of negativity coming from the fan base. We had them beat until the third quarter, made a few mistakes and lost the game. We played them better than we have in a long time and got the same result we have gotten most games against the Gators since 91. That loss, though, detonated the sleeping negavol giant, mainly because we did not realize then how good Florida really is this year; we thought it was a great chance to beat them because they were in a down year but now they are in the race for the BCS championship game. If anyone is chalking that loss up to negavibes from fans, they are wrong.

I do not doubt, however, that the players and coaches are well aware of fan sentiment right now, especially since the disgruntled ones are usually louder. Certainly that has an impact on their morale and ability to get up for the game. This Saturday's game will be very interesting.

What's really going to be a problem is when we STOP being mad about losing.... When we just expect to lose all the time like Kentucky and Vanderbilt fans do...

So some of u think the fans is why Chaney called a pass on 3rd and 3 ? The fans are the ones who let Kensukey beat us with a 3rd string WR at QB. I guess the fans are the ones who had 13 guys in at the LSU game. Come on now wake up!!!!!!!!

Wait till the passion is finally doused and apathy sets in. If the team quit when the stadium was rocking with loyal fans, what will happen when they're playing for all those empty seats? Fans haven't quit... and they're not the problem. Not even close.
