if pearl is fired, not only can harris transfer, our recruits can now decommit if the coach is fired, which is why dipietro & cheek are stupid for firing pearl. it may be that haslam went along with them in the end, but he should've stuck with hamilton.

dipietro's silence has been very troubling to me in all this. he & cheek seem to be hiding behind hamilton, which would never have happened if andy holt was still president.

i'm more convinced than ever that we chose the wrong president again. we should've gotten the guy from west virginia who once headed thec. we need a decisive president who's willing to stand up for our school against the sec & ncaa like davy crockett did at the alamo & fight for our best interests to the death.

cheek also appears to be a weak leader, too. he wimped out on a university club at club leconte reception he was supposed to attend as the featured speaker thursday night since he didn't want to face the firestorm of protests from donors that were filling the room to overflowing since they thought he would be there & were prepared to give him an earful from the hamilton radio comments that it now appears he was behind & wouldn't stand up & take responsibility for like a man.

I asked this same question. I always thought, regardless of a LOI, if your coach leaves, your allowed out of your LOI. So which is it? Do you have to still be released regardless? It must be because how could Harris leave then when he's already played a year for us?

Just what do you think would happen to recruiting if they kept a coach who had to serve a two year suspension? (And that is what would happen if they kept Pearl)

You people need to get a damn clue.

All your recruits this year (2011) are gone. All your recruits next year (2012) are gone. All your recruits the year after that (2013) are gone. And then Pearl would get to coach and recruit again, but of course the 2014 class would probably be crappy because Pearl would be starting from a dead standstill.

So maybe we would get some players again around 2015. Awesome. That's totally worth keeping Pearl for.

Ok. Pearl is gone. I get it but what about our recruits? Do they still have to come to UT or would they have to sit out a year at another school???

If you want to see what happens when you fire a coach.. See UT football. Instability sucks. Keeping Pearl the variables are known. Fire him and they are unknown. How many coaches and years do we go thru before we find the right guy ? Who knows... How about if we keep Pearl ? 1 to 2 years. Odds are you recover quicker with Pearl, and this goes away before we get to this level of BBall again.... It is a tough call though...

Right, the stability of not winning a SEC title in 10 years was pure awesomeness.

I agree on getting rid of Fulmer, that does not change the fact that it kills a program for a while. If Pearl is gone, basketball is down for 5 years at least. Fans freak, players jump ship, recruits will want to see the product for a while before they commit. That is assuming they get the right coach on the first try. It is a reset to the program. Not in every case, but I think in this case it will hurt for a while.

You know what else sucks? Sanctions, losing scholarships, post-season bans, and not even having a head coach for the next 2 years. Also, people like you coming on here and displaying your ignorance of the situation for all to see.

No it isn't. You get a solid coach the team goes on. The new coach will bring in his recruits. With Pearl gone, the NCAA sanctions will be almost nothing. A good coach and will be fine.

What do you mean, people like me ? JK.... I am not ignorant of the situation. I am on the fence. I see both sides. I just think BBall is going to suck for a while longer, (possibly) if he goes. I can see the reasons for that happening though.

Rucker posted a tweet last night where this person tweeted the Ware kid and asked him if Pearl is fired was he still coming to Tn and he came back with NO and also said neither would the Jones kid.
But if anybody thought Jones and Ware would come even if Pearl is fired is fooling themselves.Like I said before I hope they didnt get rid of the black curtains.

It sucks if Tobias Harris leaves but did anyone really expect him to stick around for very long? Not if they have a brain in their head.

It's what happened at Indiana.. and they have a far richer basketball history to fall back on than TN. I'm not arguing it's better to keep Pearl, either way our program is going to be set back. Expecting to win again next year really isn't realistic.

Hamilton according to VolWarrior33's post, is worried about that it seems.... I hope you are right though. We don't seem to have a lot of luck hiring coaches these past few years.

What will we do without a Shooting Guard who can't shoot?

We would have sucked next year even with Pearl and without NCAA sanctions.

Pearl will be let go. It was the bump he didn't tell anyone about that did it. Haslam and Hamilton wanted to keep him until that. Hamilton was pleading with the NCAA that firing Pearl would kill the program and they would rather deal with probation. Every coach knows a bump contact must be reported and he didn't tell anyone. Its sad he did some great things here.
