Who else is immersing themselves in another Fallout 4 playthrough thanks to the show?
Not many have completed it, because as the ghoul said law of the wasteland you will get sidetracked every time you start to do something.Meeeee. Just fired it up yesterday. I never completed it the first time through, but the show gave me the itch to get back in this world. So here I am.
I jumped back in with the update. Playing Survival mode on PC.
It makes the game world feel so much more alive. Resources become so much more valuable because you need to eat, drink, and sleep regularly. You can also get illnesses which you have to cure using antibiotics, which are expensive or crafted using fairly rare materials. You can only save when you sleep, so you often so fairly long stretches between saves, which amps up the tension significantly.
Also, NO fast travel. It makes you appreciate the world design more because you're constantly traversing on foot and learning new things about the map.
Yeah, even if you don't do survival, I would recommend simply not fast traveling. It really changes the game in a good way. Bethesda created an amazing world, and fast traveling causes you to miss so much of it.Doing no fast travel would be a fun idea to challenge yourself and check out the sandbox. There's a lot of random things happening in the wasteland. Although I didn't like the main story of 4, I loved the gameplay, and this update freshens things up a bit.
So the biggest barrier to modding for Fallout 4 is the failed and useless update. I can not recommend enough that if you play on PC you should downgrade to 1.10.163.0.1 and for this purpose there are two things you need.
(get Vortex from nexus if you don't already have it)
Works a peach if you have steam... it does not log you steam account but rather is using that ability to distribute the prior 163 files legally. This will downgrade you to the most stable version of Fallout 4, it's idiot proof, and this is what 99% of mods were made to be used with.![]()
Fallout 4 Downgrader
Restore your game's mod compatibility with Fallout 4 Downgrader. Quickly revert Fallout 4 to its pre-next-gen version to continue using mods that uses F4SE and Buffout. Simple and automated. Now withowww.nexusmods.com
the second must have is the Steam Next Gen update skip which modifies the steam acf file so steam does not autoupdate your Fallout 4 game again. It tricks it to think it's already updated. Youc an stil update at any time you choose however.

STEAM - Skip Next-Gen update
Use this acf file to trick steam into thinking your game is updated, so you can use your mods with peace of mindwww.nexusmods.com
Lastly if you want an update that actually WORKS and improves performance of Fallout then this mod and installing all the requirements will absoilutely have your game running actual next gen with no false promises.
"Buffout_FPS_CPU_BakaScrapHeap_MaxPapyrus Settings"

Buffout 4 NG X-CELL FPS MCM BOOST Settings
(Works for both OldGen and NextGen) I adjusted settings in various ways, for personal preference... I do not promise this is a one-size-fits-all approach, rather to get Buffout 4 NG and Xwww.nexusmods.com
Again note requirements as you will need to install all of these for it to work:
Address Library for F4SE Plugins, Baka MaxPapyrusOps, Baka ScrapHeap - Script Memory Limit Expander, Buffout 4,
Disk Cache Enabler,Fallout 4 Script Extender (F4SE),Fallout Priority - CPU Performance FPS Optimizer, High FPS Physics Fix, NVIDIA Reflex Support,(Optional, NVIDIA GPUs only), Weapon Debris Crash Fix, xSE PluginPreloader F4.
These will make your game have super quick loadtime, usually near eliminate all CTD's and allow for insane FPS even with HD everything, and best of all give you a baseline that will allow a gaming PC to then run say 700 mod collection packs without hiccups. an ACTUAL Update. This is the update we SHOULD have gotten....if promises were real.
I never played any of the DLC originally, but I'm finding the Far Harbor DLC better than the base game. The story and the side missions. It could have been it's own game. I'm really enjoying it.
I guess it makes sense as the developers from New Vegas made the Far Harbor DLC.
Yeah it's DLC that was almost it's own new game. Especially in todays day of CRAP DLC that usually is just a new texture or some other cosmetic junk, FO4 was a time where DLC was genuinely deep content and worth the price.I never played any of the DLC originally, but I'm finding the Far Harbor DLC better than the base game. the mechanist one is not as good, but still worth going through. doesn't introduce many new side quests, but the dlc main quest is pretty solid and more robust than Far Harbors main quest.I never played any of the DLC originally, but I'm finding the Far Harbor DLC better than the base game. it takes place in the wasteland so its not introducing a new area like far harbor. some new enemies, and random encounters, maybe half a dozen new locations. can't remember too many dedicated side quests, besides some procedural Preston Garvey esque quests.I'll have to keep that in mind. I'm on the last main mission of Far Harbor. A bit of a headache, but we'll worth it for the storyline.
A little sample of my highly modded version. I rolled it back to before the silly update, because modded it runs better, and looks better then their so called update. This has to do with what I mentioned above. The one thing that should stand out is the lighting, weather, and ENB. This is a sample from my Sanctuary Settlement General Store mostly.
Bethseda Update < Modders Updates.
Personally, my favorite is Nuka-World. But this is #2 for sure.I never played any of the DLC originally, but I'm finding the Far Harbor DLC better than the base game. The story and the side missions. It could have been it's own game. I'm really enjoying it.
