Fall Camp Answers

The problem with answering questions and fall camp for us, is that no matter what comes out positive it always leaves a lingering thought of if that is so positive, then was it a negative that allowed it to happen? If an edge rusher lights it up, then do our tackles suck? If the defense dominates scrimmages, then does our offense ... Well you get the point

Negative. If your "assigned QB" goes down or gets the yips, you have those "orphaned" WRs essentially being new to other QB for knowing each other's routes and timing.

Year after year after year after year, the best teams have =one quarterback= and so will UT this year. It's very rare to prepare 2 QBs to start. Heupel will pick one guy and ride with him until he either grossly underperforms or gets hurt.

Heup is studying the Brady era New England TE offense. He's gonna employ it big time.

Now that we’ve added Haslem as the fullback Bishop should have a nice hole run through.

I just remembered Spurrier doing that one year and it was very predictable when certain QB and crew trotted out versus the other.

He abandoned the approach fairly quickly

Jesse Palmer and Doug Johnson.

I was thinking about Chris Leak and Tim Tebow. Urban Meyer won his first championship with them subbing out regularly.

Saban benched Jalen Hurts for Tua mid game, then benched Tua for Hurts mid SEC championship. I don’t think pampering a starter is a requirement to win.

After the first game, that means 3 WRs will not be player very much football, because the second QB will not be -laying very much football.

Yes....couldn't remember the two names.
You do point to valid instances as well.

So maybe that is the way...didn't Cal win at UK with that platoon approach?

Would keep our offense much fresher, but in the pace we play i don't know if that would be a factor, but it would be interesting to find out.

I’m responding to the OP’s synopsis of fall camp. It seems to me that there are two QB’s who are awesome and 6 receivers who are awesome. How can we decide after one game?

If the job(s) are as undecided as the offseason reporting makes it out to be, then I’m all for the platoon approach. The chances of winning 10 games are so remote that we might as well have a lot of fun while figuring out who the starters will be next season.

There is no right or wrong answer in strategy. It’s how well you manage the chaos which makes it work.
