Fake Crowd Noise @ Neyland

For Mizzou, I sat in JJ just below one of the speaker stacks added to the sides of the jumbotron and it was a total distraction during the first half. It seemed they turned the volume down in the 2nd half and while it was still annoying, you could talk to the person beside you.

They piped in noise at the opener in Columbia too. I agree. It sounds ridiculous at times.

I'm in yy, upper deck and could hear no fake noise, could hear the band and crowd.

Initially, I was surprised at how loud Neyland was despite having ~25k fans. Quickly, however, it became readily apparent that the noise wasn’t properly aligned with the level of excitement in the stands. I get the purpose of fake crowd noise, but someone needs to do a better job of ensuring that it helps amplify the attitude of Neyland instead of coming across as uncanny and kind of taking the fans out of the experience.

You have to have crowd noise or the people watching on tv would hear nothing but cursing from the players after every play.

At the Missouri game the fake crowd noise was completely annoying - Did annoy anyone else at the game? Will it be used vs. Kentucky?

Per a document I was given before the season from the conference office, it's being used at all SEC stadiums this year at the same decibel level to try and create a consistent minimum sound that is as close to "normal" as possible. It must be used at all times, not just when the home team is on defense.

There have been a LOT of complaints about it here and at other schools and I know those complaints have been shared with the conference office. But this is what the ADs voted to do before the season, and they would have to vote again to undo it.

I hated it at the Missouri game. Not so much because of the loudness but rather how it was the exact same noise/volume. Reminded me of how it feels to hear a buzzing noise.

What is the purpose of fake crowd noise? If they have 25,000 fans that should be enough IMO

That sounds very annoying. Crowd noise is up and down during the game and really never constant.
