Coach Cut's thoughts ​

“It was difficult,” Cutcliffe said, “and I think sometimes without a preseason schedule like you get in the NFL, it takes a little while to know what games are going to be like with them (QBs). One of the things you can’t afford to do in college football is to hit your quarterback in August in practice scrimmages or otherwise.


“We couldn’t come to a conclusion until we got into games, and particularly that game, is where Heath could create things that Jerry couldn’t create. There were more different ways to win with Heath, with all due respect to Jerry. That’s what hit me. Georgia’s offense was crazy good. We were in a mode where we had to make plays if we were going to win. We weren’t going to dominate the line of scrimmage. They were good across the board. That’s where it came to between Jerry and Heath.”

He hasn't done anything to earn the leniency and trust so many on this forum want to bestow on him. Hell if he goes 5-7 this year, he will be one game over .500 the last two years. That's fireable

Actually, everything that I read said FB had the better first scrimmage. Since the ending of spring camp, everyone has put their money on FB being the starter.

He was, but honestly just about every HS QB is a gamble as well. Until they get on campus, you can't truly gauge if they have it between the ears. Many QB's with elite talent failed because they were either not ready mentally, weren't mentally strong enough to play QB at this level or couldn't process his reads fast enough to get the ball out in time. Then some are just headcases that will always be their own worst enemy. I agree, I believe we have 2 QB's with really good heads on their shoulders and shouldn't have to worry about Mommy or Daddy drama.. Looking forward to a really good and fun year, hopefully one that catapults is into CFP talk in 27 and 28..

Keep in mind those were also the days the QB actually called the plays. Every now and then HC would send one in he wanted run but 90% of the time the plays called were what the QB thought would work and called in the huddle.

I have heard the same thing. Much more accurate passing. But I really don't think anyone really knows as practice viewing has been slim to none.

It's just the way of college football now. Ga. lost their qb to Miami. This day and time good players move for more money. Not that I can blame them, but to me its just the way it is. The days of having a good qb 3 years at the same school will be a rare thing, just my opinion

We've consistently had a top 5, maybe even 3, offense in the SEC. Just haven't had the defense to go with it. Will Jim Knowles be the difference? We shall see

Heupel thought Joe would be better than Hendon - we all saw how that turned out.

When the lights turn on, it can be a totally different story. Practice hero’s can become dunces and vice versa

Nico has almost 1,000 yards rushing in his career. Had some big runs at Tennessee that brought Tennessee wins.
Sure he still has a way to go as passer but I believe his record at Tennessee was 11-3? He kept Tennessee on the field longer than Aguilar did. His style catered to the defense. Not saying he’s better than Joey, but Nico was an integral part of our only playoff team. Yeah he left us, but people need to learn to be honest. His finances were messed up by that choice. No reason to call him garbage when he had an 11-3 record here.

Brandon is more advanced in reading defenses at this stage. Not sure about GMAC. But Nico straight line speed is a step faster than Brandon and GMAC. All 3 should be in the NFL one day.

When the real bullets fly- we saw 2 seasons worth of evidence they say youre a fool.
Hendon was better and it wasn’t even close.

Hendon offense in 2022 (46 ppg)
Milton offense in 2023 (32 ppg?)

To Guarantano, the best way to help a young quarterback is putting together a strong run game. Once that’s in place, the attention turns to simplifying things in the pass game.

“I start with the run game,” Guarantano said. “You have to establish the run game and luckily we’re returning some really good offensive linemen and probably one of, if not the best, running backs in the SEC that will be heavily relied on. And for a young guy like that, whenever you start calling games, I believe the best thing is to get them in a rhythm. So, quick throws, screens, moving the pocket. Don’t have them reading top-down progressions or full-field progression reads as a young guy that’s trying to see everything.

The only games Milton played in 2022 were pretty damn good. Had a hell of an Orange Bowl.
Hooker was better for our offense for sure.

The Beck situation was different. He was going to go pro, then I guess with his injury that changed. With his girlfriend being at Miami that was a possibility then Miami offered him a bag..He was never expected to be back at Ga, they were moving on to Stockton. If anything, Beck knew Ga was moving on and he had to find a new home if he didn't turn pro. He wore out his welcome at Ga.

Faizon will be helped by us leading the league in rushing and burying teams in the 4th going back to Bishop or a fresh legged Morris who can break one at any time esp against a tiring defense.
And with Knowles defense, we won’t have games where we only have 7-9 total offensive possessions because defense can’t get off the field during another 7 minute drive.
Offense having momentum after a score and getting back out there is huge. Or even after a 3 and out. Sitting for 15+ realtime minutes after either one is a challenge and mentally draining on every level.

And we got NFL games that show Hooker just doesn’t have it.
Joe played the last game in NE and lit it up.
Joe played well for the most part this preseason also.
Preseason is nothing like Fall Camp. Bullets were flying as each QB had players coming to hit them hard and no red jersey to protect them
