It appears that the NCAA Rules Committee at the request of the American Football Coaches Assn. is finally looking at penalizing teams and players who do the fake injury routine. They are proposing that the offending player has to sit out the remainder of the possession. Teams would be charged a timeout if they wanted to get said player back in the game during the possession. There was some reference in the story that the players who have the helmet microphone would only have to sit out one play but that seems kind of odd to me. Looks to me like there should be no exceptions.

Instead of “offending” player, I should have said “injured” player. Could be really injured or he could be faking. In the latter case, that would be offending. One other caveat was that a player injured by a penalty (like a personal foul or targeting) would be exempted.

What about third string linemen during PAT's?

Not sure how to address this. The clock is already dead and nearly every player on both sides is being substituted for. Possession is changing by rule.

I have often wondered if this is a ploy by Coach to put the practice in play when it does not create an advantage to stop it when it does. Going to a TV timeout anyway lots of times.

But does get eye rolls from every coach, player and fan and raises awareness.

I love that this wouldn’t affect our fake PAT injuries at all. 😂

No, he’s just doing it to rest his defense. You’ll notice we only do it after quick scores or defensive/special teams scores.

Leave it to the NCAA to have a knee jerk reaction and propose making player sit out the playoffs. Make the kid sit out the remainder of the possession. No need to go past that.

Yea. Let’s focus on player safety as the issue - make it harder for folks to push back.

The biggest rule should be only the “injured” player can sub unless the offense does and the coaches aren’t allowed to huddle with the team.

And coaches who are seen on video directing players to go down should be fined.

Easy fix then, require a form from the tent guys verifying his fitness to return to the field signed by HC and submitted to lead official at next timeout.
Is that kinda like having a hall pass to go to the restroom o_O o_O o_O

I’m curious if a player who manages to hobble off the field but the officials hold the ball will be impacted? I get the impression it’ll only apply if the trainers attend on the field.
