Failure is a part of the process. It doesn’t matter what it is; failure is how you get to be highly successful.
The Vols looked pretty bad some of the time yesterday but they had some moments. The bad looked mental. It’s easy to get beaten by players who are comfortable in their system when you are learning yours. It’s easy to forget that most of our offensive players were recruited to play a spread and our defensive players were recruited to play a 4-3. A lot of those guys only know football on those terms. There are going to be growing pains but we did some things well. We ran the call effectively at times though the blocking broke down more than I like. Our passing looked crisp and receivers were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there.
In the long run this game won’t really matter. We could still win the east (I’m not betting on it, but we mathematically could). We could still have a pretty good season. We won’t be undefeated (Big shock).
We have the opportunity to improve week to week and if we do, I believe we have the building blocks to make it to a bowl game.

The failure is 4 years of bad coaching, leaving what talent we have very undeveloped and it shows all over the field. I feel really bad for the kids that got fooled by Butch.

Losing sucks. Many things didn't look right yesterday. But the feel of the game did change. The coaches and players were trying to win regardless of the score. During the Butch era, I felt like they were playing and coaching not to lose by a lot. They were more for moral victory. Yesterday, I saw a trying to win attitude. So once the real talent and the execution improve, this will be a good team.

Playing freshman corners against a team like WV says that CJP is playing the long game with this team. We suffer through their learning period making them better in the long run. Same goes with Guarantano who had good game. He has 3 years to get better. The freshmen have 4. Only time will tell how it works out.

I’m not saying we are going to win the east. I’m just making the point that this game isn’t a game that defines a season.
We got our clock cleaned pretty good yesterday. We have two developmental scrimmages coming up. I think we will be able to start judging Pruitt’s coaching ability for the FL game. Different teams will present different challenges, but we will only face maybe 2 other qbs who will rival Grier...Bama and UGA. If we shore up some things, we can have a shot against UF in Neyland.

I'm more worried that we will face at least five defenses that are a LOT better than WV's.

I've seen plenty of failure over the last decade, when does the highly successful part come?

I should probably add that you have to do something with your failure other than sit in a corner and pout. You have to consume failure. You analyze and you grow from it.
We haven’t seen that it a long time. We’ve heard a lot of blame.
