I support the VOLS and always will but we are just an avg team now and will continue to be that. We have one top 10 finish since winning the NC and unranked 2 of those seasons. Unless something EXTRAORDINARY CHANGES, this will continue to be the same year and year out. Get used to the 2, 3 losses perhaps 4. We are simply being out coached and in most phases of the game and there is a total lack of discipline that is correctible. We are missing the players to take control on both sides of the ball. Gone are the Al Wilson's The Tee martin's Peyton's in came the Kelly Washingtons the James Banks. We need leaders soon and very fast.

Interesting definition of average.

I'm not satisfied with our performance but 2 loss seasons are not average by any means.

I'd say average would be 5 wins...seeing as about half of the teams go to a bowl each year...

I wouldn't call 2 or even 3 and 4 loss seasons average, I call them consistently being a good team, but just missing out on some of the breaks that allow teams to win the championship.

i agree brg72 we are average and i think unless changes are made we will slip to the middle of the pack in the sec in 3 years. fullmer can't keep talking kids into coming to tennessee when the offense is a joke. nothing will change because the program is committed to fullmer and ad hamilton is a joke. pretty soon you won't be able to spell tennessee without the words unranked.

You have to admit, it getting a little old losing to the same teams over and over. 2 losses isn't bad by any means, but when they come to your 2 rival schools in the SEC East Being in the middle of the SEC East is average. Or being in the middle of the SEC period.

The last 2 coaches at Georgia starting with Ray Goff lost their jobs for repeatedly finishing 3rd in the SEC east behind UT and Florida. Ron Zook lsot his job at Florida for basically the same reason. Georgia has basically owned us the last 5-6 years, I think we are like 1-5. Urban Meyer hasnt been impressive at Florida, but he has already beat us once while his team was still trying to learn his offense. I feel like we are the 3 team in the SEC east now, and SC may push us for that in a few years. Its gonna take 4-5 consecutive seasons of playing second fiddle to Ga and Fl before changes come, but that looks like what is coming.

Tennessee plays in the toughest conference in the nation. To go undefeated in the SEC or to even get through with one loss is a remarkable accomplishment. How many SEC teams have went undefeated since the conference went to the championship game format? I may be wrong but I believe it's four if you count Florida (even though they lost to Nebraska in the NC game that year. The other three being Tennessee, Bama, and Auburn. What I'm trying to say is, the huge expectations that were built during the Manning era became even bigger after 98. Its not realistic to believe we can compete for the NC year in and year out playing in the SEC. If we switched places with USC and played a PAC 10 schedule the "experts" would be talking about the Vols being the gratest of all time and not the Trojans.

Leadership starts at the top. Look at Fulmer now and Look at him then. He has lost his own discipline at the table and with his team!

Why do you hate on everyone so much Sarge? Did your dad not spend enough time with you when you were young? I bet you've never played football before in your life. And if you did play I bet you were terrible and sat on the bench. And if you were good enought to get on the field it was because everyone elase on your team was worse than you.

Sarge! I am finally in agreement w/ you!

Discipline, or lack thereof, shows very clearly on the field. Dropped passes, missed tackles and blocks and blown assignments can all be attributed to a lack of discipline. Fulmer needs to take back his team. I think Chavis, for the most part, has done his job but the others need to take a lesson. Like it or not it all comes from the top down.

jacksonian, i'm not saying that we should compete for a nc every year, but it would sure be nice to win the sec or go to a bcs game. the sec is tough, but no sec championships since 98 something has to give.

i agree 100% oklavol it looks like we are pretty much doomed for 5-7 years.

Doomed for 5-7 years? Our freshman class this year is arguably better than any other school in the SEC. Consistenly ranked anywhere from #1-#5 in the country. Are you not even going to give those freshman a chance in the next 3 years?

AMEN to that. I have always hated preseason hype. Look at Michigan, Iowa, Ohio state, Oklahoma....it is a game. It is a funny game. Just hang in there and see what happens.

the problem is not the talent it is the coaching. it would't matter if we had the new england patriots we would not win the sec. florida up and coming, alabama up and coming, georgia still good despite loosing almost everybody, south carolina verdict still out. and that is not mentioning lsu or auburn. as long as fullmer is coach there will be no sec championships in knoxville we may get a 10-3 or 9-4 season and play in the peach bowl, but i believe that is all we have to look forward to.
