We could very well be in the same situation that bama was in a few years ago..Not if CPF goes but when he goes we could go thru 3 to 4 coaches before we find the right fit. To get our program back to where it was and where it should be. Lets just say i am excited and worried at the same time

Just find the next Saban on the first try instead of fumbling around with Shulas and Duboses of the world.

Unless they spend the money.
I would have to say your right and that it's a real possibility that it could play-out like that.

Bama paid top dollar and kept after the guy they wanted, even after he said no a bunch of times. Now, they are in position to win a national title in year 2.

Also, there are no scholy reductions to worry with.

But just to point out a thing about Dubose he did have a winning record against Spurrier.

I think this is a probability, more than a possibility. Most schools go through that crap when they start changing coaches. I'm afraid we'll be wishing for 8 wins for years to come. I hope I'm wrong.

I understand that people are afraid Hamilton may make a bad, conservative here, and I am too, however you guys have to understand that there is a chance we get it right on the first try.

Look around, chances are slim, most of the time when programs get in this shape it takes a while to get it right. I honestly think the best choice might be to let Fulmer get this good class in next year, get back to 8 wins then let him retire on the upswing at the end of next year. This class we're working on could be special, and could be a key to rebounding this slide(freefall). Not to mention the buyout would go down considerably.

Please........Fulmer's coaching is, well, Fulmer's coaching.

And why are so many people worried about the high cost of a buyout?

How many times over the years have we heard that "this class is going to be something specail" yet they turn out to be a 7-8-9 win team or sometimes less(5). I personally am tired of hearing it. We have heard that about this special class for a long time yet they just turn out to do the same things, a cotton bowl here, alot of losses to FL there, a beating in the SECCG every once in awhile, an outback bowl here. That IS NOT TN football. Its time for a change.

I'm not saying we don't need a change, but if we land Boyd this may be a top 10 class. Just saying get them in here, then let Fulmer announce next season as his last. Then a new coach will have something to build on.

On an earlier thread I posted my worst scenario, which is that CPF announces his resignation this weekend, effective the end of the season. I'm sure y'all understand why that's my worst scenario.

If I put on a Tenn hat... (ugh... that's tough... THERE!) - I think triton1 is on the right path. However, I'd favor appointing a HC-in-waiting. Like the Jimbo Fisher situation at FSU. But unlike Jimbo, the HC-in-waiting at Tenn would have a day-certain when he takes over. Recruits would see continuity in the program, fans who want CPF replaced would see a change on the horizon, and the rest of this season and next season could celebrate CPF's many contributions to Tenn football. Worst case from a Tenn standpoint (excluding the Bama situation in a week or so) would be for CPF to be forced out during the season. I don't need to reiterate the reasons why. Besides, the good coaches will still be available at the end of the season.

We are going to be "re-building" no matter if Fulmer stays or goes. I, sad to say, agree with Fossil, Bammer or no. Give the next coach the nod, but keep Fulmer on the sideline in a figurehead capacity next year. Let him bow out gracefully whle having no input with the actual program unless he's asked. I don't know if he would go for that, but it is a good plan IMO.
