Expectations for the program

The admin is the problem and until fans aim their anger in that direction, nothing will change. If you keep spending your money on the crappy product they present, they are given no incentive to change. You have to cut them off..

I hear some say, you're not a real fan if you "empty Neyland". Well OK, if you're not willing to affect change, then stop bitching about the product. This problem goes all the way up and it won't be changed by fans whining and firing up Voltweeter..

You won't change? It's going to be painful to achieve it because of where the problem resides.. As it stands, you're empowering them to continue ripping you off.

I'll end this with a question. Do you consider it "loyalty" to continue wasting your hard earned coin on a bad product?

The 1998 NC ruined UT, the expectations from that day destroyed reality for Tennessee football. I love the Big Orange, but I noticed the fan base turned on the school. Its is MY opinion, that prior to CPF, that UT is that kind of program. I am quilty of all the above. Tennessee is just not the school to attract GREAT players or coaches.

This is what happens when you whiff on four straight HC hires in 11 years. Kiffin wasn’t really a “whiff” but counts.
I don’t think there’s a major program in history that has done such a piss pour job of trying to hire a HC.

ESPN declared a long time ago that Tennessee fans were just trailer trash and hillbillies?
Remember?

I think the expectations should be 8 competitive wins, with a 9-10 win season sprinkled in every 3-5 years. Maybe an East title every 7-10 years.

I think it’s just you noticed it then. It’s been exactly the same my whole life. There was a furious hatred for majors and then Fulmer Even on his first day. I remember seriously people wanting to fire Fulmer his first game as head coach. Not making it up. They had to scream across the street back then, not enough internet users.

It’s because there are a significant portion of the fan base that keeps spewing this stuff about us being a top 10 in wins of all time and our good run in the 90’s and early 2000s. Some want to say that oh we are TN and we should expect championships. It’s laughable.

We are not as good of a program as done want to think. We haven’t been in a long time. Our expectations at this point should be 8 wins with an occasional 9 win season sprinkled in. The days of TN being an actual relevant force in the SEC are long gone.
We aren't going to be top 10 in wins much longer unless things change. UGA is coming up hard on our 6 and may pass us as soon as next year if we continue hemorrhaging ground to them at the standard Kirby vs. Beldar rate.

How could what has happened this season be reasonable to any fan. Coming off a season that went fairly well we had most of the team returning and we now have this BS season. How tiring is it for some talking heads to say Tennessee fans have unreasonable expectations when were 2 and 5 in the third year of a coaches tenure. If your going backward in year three tells me something is terribly wrong.

Until the admin changes, I have no expectations for this program. It's pretty much dead and will remain so until there are changes at the top. Firing Pruitt and hiring Freeze or any legit head coach is a pipe dream. They're gonna continue with Pruitt and come hell or high water they're gonna make that round peg fit the square hole. Pruitt does the same with JG at qb. Match made in heaven. Guess I'll focus on MMA, rugby and Hallmark channel re-runs instead of the corpse that once was UT football. Thank gawd it's basketball time in Tennessee.

Well, the opinions of Vol Fans are all over the map, like this team, there is not real identity of the fan base. I want an elite program, but until we PLAY the elite players, this team will be sub 500.

Go Vols

I blame John Ward for retiring.

So, Kiffen, Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt are not enough data points to support anything in my statement?

The fans have not turned on the school. The jugheads running the school are serving up crap sandwiches to the fans and expecting them to enjoy them. It is like they think they know what is best, but even through all of the 30 years of mistakes, they are yet to learn from them. Instead, they fix one mistake with a bigger mistake. They could turn the program over to the three stooges, and get better results. At least it would be funny.

Expectations should be to finish every season no worse than 3rd in the east, win the east every 2-3 years, win SECCG every 3-5 years which will get us in the playoffs and win that at least every 10 years.

Not unrealistic in the least.

It's been said many times...and it's not unreasonable. Beat the the teams you're supposed to beat. COMPETE, and occasionally win against better teams. Compete for the EAST. Be in the conversation for the division (top 3) every year, and win it every 3-4. Anything after that is cake. Winning the East gives you the opportunity to think about other things. That is all I expect....except IMPROVEMENT. Those goals can change as you improve, but at Tennessee these should be the baseline.

They are rational, and they are achievable. They should be iron-clad expectations explained to any coach that wants the job.
