I know several have been discussing Dooley, fire or not fire, and the expectations that should be expected at Tennessee. You assume Dooley would know the expectations going in, but sometimes a more stern message needs to be delivered by the powers to be that mediocrity isn't going to cut it.

Muschamp mentioned that this was his welcome to the University of Florida the first day he came to work as head coach.

“When I walked into my office [the first day] there were only three things left in a very barren office and that was three national championship trophies. I think our athletic director left them here on purpose to make sure I understood the expectation level. [...] I walked in – his office is right down from mine. I said, ‘Jeremy (Foley, Florida Athletic Director), I’m assuming these were left here on purpose.’ He said, ‘That’s what we expect.’ I said, ‘I got you.’”

Problem is many in the UT AD after Hart cleaned house apparently have accepted mediocrity, and are using the same talking points as in the election going on right now about "what he inherited" then a Florida team that is supposed to be "down" spanks our ass, we had to regroup to beat Akron, almost got lucky at Ga, and now enter a grueling 3 games that we will be lucky to win 1 of.

It is apparent expectations were not outlined to him the same way they were Muschamp......but then again your "down" team filled with freshmen and underclassmen are undefeated ranked #4 and we are 0-11 vs ranked teams in Dooleys tenure. If the expectations were that low, I hope they didnt tell him. Maybe they left a Peach Bowl trophy there to remind him what they expect, or a Music City Bowl trophy.

I wouldnt let him handle our NC trophy, he might break it.

I would like to see Hart lay it out for him.

Beat MSU.
Beat either Bama or USCe.
Win the last 4.

Win the bowl game.

If not, pack your bags. As soon as 1 thing is not met, the coaching search begins.

Lebanon,

That's kind of where i was going............I think it's fair to say you don't want your coach stressing out over things like this as he prepares for games, but you would hope he knows that 7-5 doesn't get you an extension, it gets you fired.

This exactly is what is needed. No way all of that is met, and we get a new coach. Thats what we need guys, not "more time" or "better recruits". There is NO WAY you can convince me of his ability to win given his record. Anyone capable of greatness show shades of it at times and would have pulled out at least 1 win vs a ranked team and on the road in SEC vs anyone but Vandy.

Hell, 7-5 would be Dooley's best finish.

The problem is that Kiffin put all of the Tennessee trophies back in the back closet to make room for the Reggie Bush jerseys.

Best in the country imo.

Compare Foley to his quote from Mike Hamilton:

"I interviewed some other guys who are very successful, and will be very successful, and I will look forward to watching them,” Hamilton said. “But in the end, I was probably overly sensitive to the fact that the last situation wasn’t as much of a fit as it needed to be. Lane did a lot of good things in terms of his ability to coach and all those kinds of things. But Derek is just more a fit. I don’t know any other way to say it.

“Derek will connect with our fan base. A guy who in his first press conference says ‘mama,’ ‘britches’ and ‘supper’ will connect with our fan base. I get that. It’s sweet tea and grits. But it’s one thing to say that stuff, and it’s another thing to be that stuff. And I think Derek is a consummate Southerner.”

There's a reason why NO company or athletic department would ever put you in charge.

Here is another great Foley quote:

In 2002, Foley explained to The Associated Press why he had run off successful baseball, men's tennis and gymnastics coaches in a relatively short time. "I'm a big believer in the saying that if something needs to be done eventually, it needs to be done immediately," Foley said. "We have a responsibility to be as good as we can be."

Companies do not have expectations? Ask the dozens of people that no longer work for me because they continually underperformed lol. Thats crazy to say laying out expectations then standing behind them is bad business. I think the opposite, accepting mediocrity and failing to admit that failure is the UT AD's biggest weakness.

It is the definition of insanity to repeat the same actions and expect different results. 0-11 vs ranked teams and a career losing record is NOT an acceptable level of performance at UT.....unless UT is no longer a top tier program and is right there with the Miss States, Ole Misses, Arkansas, and others that make a bowl most years but are not even in the conversation nationally. The Florida game this year was his opportunity to bring relevance back to the hill, but instead they froze up, quit, and showed a complete lack of "winning spirit" or "positive mental attitude".

This team needs to learn "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we respond to it!"
