Outside of the monuments and museums, it IS a **** hole.

There were some good restaurants once upon a time, but the roads suck and the traffic is mind numbing.

Other than that, it is a GREAT place for Marxists and Marxist sympathizers to live. Tennessee is a terrible, awful place full of hillbillies and stupid people playing banjos. Don't go there if you are sophisticated.

Of course it is, except for the neighborhoods, restaurants of all types, entertainment, nightlife, recreation, museums, gardens, the Mall, cultural centers, etc. Traffic's bad but it's easy to navigate, and if you don't want to drive you can use the Metro.
