For some reason I still get a mostly negative feeling about Kiffin as I read along. Guy's this thing that is being put together in Knoxville is exciting. I live in the Metro Atlanta area and have alot of friends that are Dogs and Gators. We talk football most everyday, in recent years I've been the whipping boy. I am the Whipping Boy no longer. These guy's are in a state of disbelief. As the big names keep rolling in, reality is setting in on the Dogs and Gators. No more Field Goal Phil comments. It's time for us, THE VOLNATION to get excited and put our full support behind CLK. We are gonna have a D that is intense and disciplined, and an offensive system that has been proven at USC. Give it time let CFK get his guys in place and have the opportunity to coach up our current players. Get fired up!! Stop the negativety.

Don't know why you still get a mostly negative feeling about Coach Kiffin. Things are looking up around here. It's all going to be good. Enjoy the ride! :salute:

Things will be "looking up" when he actually starts doing something significant in recruiting. I'm still very much in the "wait and see" mode.

You don't win without talent... period. Boyd? Well, OK, no prob. Same with Petty.

Giles? I liked him a lot but UT has talent at RB and Oku/Williams could be special.

But Herbert was a huge, huge, huge hit. UT needs DT's. Worse yet, they lost a potential All SEC player to UF.

To paraphrase Cuba... "Show me the money Lane".

I'm definitely hoping for the best and am no where near to writing him off... but the impact on recruits has been well short of spectacular.

Herbert committed to Florida and cancelled his visit here. He may kick himself after the news of Monte and Orgeron sink in.

Lane got a late jump on these guys, and was not left in the best spot from the previous staff with some of the targets and commits. I say we will see what kind of job he does rectuiting next year...it's just not fair to judge him with this class...too many factors.

Without naming his coaches, it's hard to expect a recruit to commit. He's mostly just been meeting these guys and getting to know them a bit.

I don't think he starts leveling the bat until he's staffed up. Today, he's in much better shape to recruit than he was yesterday and tomorrow looks better than today.

Yet, it's fair to wait and see. Agree on your assessment of players. We've really only lost one and, by most counts, we never had him. Still, he hasn't signed and with more news I'd think we'd still welcome reconsideration. We should be extremely attractive to superstar DLine recruits about now.

I doubt many guys committing to Florida are kicking themselves as they watch UF play in the national championship game.

Extremely valid point. In any event, I don't understand the extremely high expectations for this recruiting class, when Lane didn't even get on the scene until the final act, and still hasn't assembled his staff. I will be pleased if he can maintain this class as a top 25 type ranking. My expectations will be high for next year and beyond that, but to hammer him right now is not fair.

It is a valid point. However on the flip side of that....These kids want to play in the NFL and go to schools that give them the best chance and prepare them for that. He might be thinking wow I could have gone to UT and learned from the very best D coach in not just the NCAA but all of football.

Kiffin was not my first choice, but after seeing the staff he is putting together and the upside on recruiting for years to come, I'm questioning myself on why I was skeptical of this hire.

I'm very excited about what is happening in Knoxville and fully prepared to give Coach Kiff the time he needs to get his players.

We lost a tackle to a team that is playing for its second national title in three years. You should have expected us to lose herbert, especially after he decommitted. We'll get some dt's when orgeron and monte are both here.

I would have KILLED to have played in Monte Kiffin's system in college. And you are right he may not...but I promise you guys coming from UT on the Defensive side of the ball willbe getting instant cred come draft day in the next few years.

We had a losing record last season. UF is playing for its second NC in the last 3 years. We did not guarantee Herbert that we would keep Adkins (which Herbert was very adament about). And Kiffin, who had 2 weeks to develop a relationship with him, did not sway him back to UT after the kid got an offer from UF. Yeah, that is certainly a sign that Kiffin cant recruit.....

The reason Phil failed at Tennessee was because he was too paranoid to hire competent staff once Cutcliffe left both in '99 and '08. Lane is bringing in a top-notch NFL staff around him and can sell it as a NFL farm team to get recruits. Things are looking up at The School of Hard Knoxville!

Yes when running damage control its hard not to sustain some blood loss, but that was why he retained the Donnan boy and Dryaton. But hes already got people slated for those positions, Scott would be the only one retained, because of his resume.

I am thinking Adkins is on his way out because the o-line coach from Oakland has been hired.

I would like to see Kiffin keep as many recruits and get as many as possible, but I am not going to beat him up seeing as how this year will be an uphill battle to keep recruits since he is coming in on the back end of recruiting. I think it is more realistic for us to see him come in and coach up what we have. If he chokes next recruiting season, then we can jump on him and it be a little more justified. But really......we just came off of a 3 win season, we lost a coach that has been here forever, and our entire staff(almost) who recruited these guys are gone. I think the fact we have kept as many players as we have is pretty da*n good.

I think Scott is gone as well.
