Excerpts from Letter that Was Sent to Pearl by Cheek and Hamilton

:ermm:just read the letter, all I can say is "wow", that takes moxie.
to tell minors (recruits):

"what you're doing now is against the rules, ssshhhh... don't tell anybody!"

and then

lie before the judge when he already knows the truth.

this is gonna be real, real .... bad.

take everything, I said about keepin' Pearl at all costs, and throw it out the window.
I just hope he can manage somehow to save his job and career.

Our fear of inability to hire a coach is irrational. To Pearl's credit, he has made this an attractive gig. We will support a coach in every way they might need.

I don't think you are wrong. I just think a lot of people fear the same thing happening to the BBall program as did the football program.. If you take away the stability, it may take years to find a coach who is the right fit, and brings us back to where we are now... Multi-year penalties, let him go... If it's just a one year penalty, keeping him and moving forward would be better with the current state UT athletics are in right now.

If Dipietro wants to start his term off by sending a clear signal that the University of Tennessee has 'character', he'll rid the institution of Hamilton and Pearl long before the NCAA forces the issue.

Depietro is the guy who can give UT a bit of sliver lining for policing its own ranks.

Either way, they're done before the New Year.

so? Cause it's ok at Kentucky, it should be ok for us?

This burns me up. I am against trash talking on here but this has pushed me over the edge. Listen.. I am a Kentucky fan. I have never really said it on here so I guess this is my "coming out" message. I was born and raised in Kentucky and graduated from UK; however, I have several reasons for liking and having an interest in UT athletics or I wouldn't have a profile on here. My family owns a lake house in Grainger County so I have spent my summers down there all my life. So as crazy as it seems.. I am a Kentucky and a Tennessee fan. You will NEVER hear me deliver a low blow to any team. Not Tennessee, not even Florida. I appreciate the rivalry and respect the programs. But I don't think it's okay even for a second for you to think that running a slummy program is okay at Kentucky or Tennessee. I don't know what experiences you have had with Kentucky, whether it be with the team, the coaches, or the fans, but I can assure you that is not the case, not at Kentucky nor Tennessee. Have we messed up a time or two? Of course. I'll admit to that. But actions were taken and problems were resolved. The same thing could be said about Tennessee. Actions have been taken, and problems here WILL be resolved. Has Kentucky hired a controversial coach? Yes. But his past is his past and so is everybody else's. Nothing can change that. So lets look at something a little more pertinent. The present. You tell me one thing that man has done wrong at Kentucky! I'm sure you're going to bring up Bledsoe. The NCAA done an extensive review on him, TWICE, and cleared him both times. Wouldn't you have played him? Your crazy if you say no. That wouldn't have even been an issue had a NY Times reporter had chosen not to write such a ludacris article. Yes, Cal is taking a chance on Kanter. But it's just a gamble. He has not played in any games and has not participated in any practices more than the limited amount the NCAA had given him. Therefore nothing would be done to the University, Calipari, or the mens basketball program if he is not eligible. It will simply be dropped. UK and Tennessee both have been very compliant at the administrative level in working out any issues with the NCAA. I realize that the circumstances are quite different between the two schools, but compliant none the less. So don't set there and tell me that Kentucky or Tennessee is satisfied with a slummy program. Thats bull and you know it!

Hamilton maybe, but not Pearl. If he starts the season he is ending the season. Depietro will have to hire a new AD and then that AD will make the move. You can't fire Pearl in the middle of a top 20 season cause you are trying to make a move. I think Depietro will be a lot more interested in improving UT academics. As much as we fudge the average act and gpa numbers of incoming students we are still a national laughing stock out side of the business program.

That sounds like solid priorities to me and I agree with the order of the terminations.

The new AD will need some time to find a new coach before firing Pearl, so he doesn't end up repeating the 3-day panic process that Hamilton used to hire a football coach.
