i'm wanting to be a Sports Information Director for a college/university. Essentially it's a Media Relations person. I would be in charge of writing press releases of the games, stories about the teams, keeping up the website, writing up programs and keeping the media people happy. I'd also be helping with gameday operations such as stats and what not.

other positions a lot of people are interested are the marketing fields, ticketing, promotions, game day operations (set up, organization, stats, etc), and a few want to be GM's and what not. I could also see myself going into the baseball realm still working media relations.

For me, I just love the sports setting, regardless of the game being played. I've worked in baseball, collegiate wrestling, basketball, a company that just did a marathon and other races, and I am about to start a job with golf. I've enjoyed them all so far. not great money wise though. I guess it's a trade off. I've gotten so many free clothes and other merchandise, plus seen some cool events that I guess it evens out.

my boss's son went thru an similar program at Southern Miss, then to Lousiana-Lafayette, and is now in a masters program/internship at Marshall.....he's basically the asst. SID, and gets to do pretty much all the major sports, and was the liason between the university, ESPN and the hollywood types that were at the Marshall game earlier this year promoting "we are marshall".pretty cool stuff.

i love what i do, but man, if i had had a brain in my skull when i was in college, i would have followed a similar path......difference in loving what you do and DOING what you love.....

I'm getting a degree in sports journalism. I've been in the press box for UT's football games and baseball games as well as being on the floor for basketball games.

yeah. being on the floor w/ an all access pass to the women's tournament last year @ ODU, (where the Lady Vols played) was quite special. Being able to say i worked with ESPN and sat at halfcourt on media row next to the announcers was very exciting. side note, i do enjoy women's bball, i know some love to bash it.

Isn't it great to know with the degree you get you'll actually want to go to work? :)

it is. I know other people love what they do and want to go to work for their jobs, but i do know that being around sports is my passion, so yes, it's great knowing i want to go to work when i wake up.

Thats exactly how i feel with about sports. One of the reasons why I want to go into the SM field.

When I checked my admissions status online and found out I was accepted, I was literally in shock. I kept going back and reading it just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

True. I got a full ride before the lottery made it so that everyone gets $$$.

Yeah, I started at UT like 2 years before the lottery money went into effect!!! I still got a scholarship though, so it wasn't that bad.

btw...my gpa was 3.8 and I got a 30 on my ACT when I was admitted.

i have a 40 hr job, can't remember tha last time i sweat while i was there, and earned $65,000 last year with only a hs diploma. no student loan to pay back.:rock:
