Evina Westbrook named Morgan Wootten player of the year

Te'a Cooper and Jaime Nared will start for sure, if Diamond DeShields, and Mercedes Russell return they will start for sure, the next one will be hard to say, but Evina Westbrook, Anastasia Hayes, or Rennia Davis will be the other one to start. It will be hard to keep them out of the line up. Kasiyahna Kushkituah, Cheridene Green, Meme Jackson, Alexa Middleton, Kortney Dunbar, and Kamera Harris will see some playing time but not sure how much.

Green will start at the 4 spot with Cooper, Nared, (and Diamond and Russell should they return)

If Diamond leave;

PG-Cooper
SG-Middleton
SF-Nared
PF-Green
C-Russell

If Russell leave;

PG-Cooper
SG-Middleton
SF-Diamond
PF-Nared
C-Green

If Both Diamond and Russell leave;

PG-Cooper
SG-Middleton
SF-Davis
PF-Nared
C-Green

Holly has shown a loyalty (to a fault) to certain players and it will be hard (imo) for the freshman to start right away over Middleton and Jackson who would have been at UT 2 and 3 years respectively. Should Middleton and MeMe struggle I think you will see more playing time going to Hayes and Westbrook, If Russell returns I don't see KK playing as much her freshman year though I could be wrong. We shall see.

I don't know who will start the season but I expect Westbrooks will be the starting point guard before the season is over. Davis will play a lot of minutes Holly is not going to sit a scorer like her on the bench. She is a better three point shooter than Middleton. I expect a nine or ten player rotation. If Jackson wants to play she needs to get a lot better fast. Dunbar and Harris are not getting off the bench.
Cooper needs to be a lot better running the team and shooting the ball. Holly should not accept her assists to turnover ratio she put up as a freshmen or her shooting percentage. I would expect huge minutes played cuts for all the players if the big three stay. I think Diamond and Mercedes may be the only players to get 30 minutes a game if they return.

If both MR & DD do not come back, this is my projected started 5:
G- Cooper & Westbrook
F- Davis & Nared
C- Green

Like someone mentioned in another post I believe Holly will give the upperclass men the opportunity to start; Meme or Alexa could very well be in that mix.
I do think that either Davis or Westbrook will start depending on how well they play in practice and will fit the teams needs.

MR stays & DD leaves:
Same line up with only one of the freshmen starting (Davis or Westbrook) and putting Nared at her natural wing position.

both MR & DD stays: (I'd be so happy for this!!!)

G- Cooper & DeShields
F- Nared & Green
C- Russell

That would be some bench we have.

Wishful thinking!

Every coach in the country would love to have that starting line up mentioned above. To me that's final four talent. Do we have a final four coach?

Have watched her film and she seems to do it at ease on the HS level. Her layups are similar to Diamonds. Let's see how she does on the college level under duress and pressure.

I would hope that the point guard becomes a multiple choice. With multiple guards and forwards who are mobile and attack the rim, dribble drive, constantly move without the ball and communicate the offense should be difficult to defend. And if the less mobile can set and reset screens the LVs should be able to create many mismatches.

Go LVs.

She better. Not much high school basketball talent in the State of Oregon to go against night in night out. LOL. I want to see her against high level talented guard play.

She did beat out the top leve talent to make the USA 18U team last summer. She also won has won two summer national Nike titles... so not only did she play with high talent she went up against a lot and played really well.

I really believe DD would do better on those layups without the so called euro step. Looks great but still counts as 2 points if you hit it!:boobies::tease2:

I hope Diamond does stay, because with westbrook and all this talent coming in she wont be nearly as pressured to be Tennessee's only real scoring threat like she has been this year

Mercedes was a huge scoring threat. Teams were forced to double her if she got the ball in the paint. Very few teams have players who could guard her one on one.

I'm still not convinced the freshmen will be huge scoring threats on day 1. They will need time to adjust to the college game.

Um, Oregon has been one of the strongest and deepest states for girls basketball overall talent. Not night in and out but Evina just led her team to the semi's of state during a year that nobody expected them to get back to state after all the D1 talent they lost the last two years. That is how good Evina is. She is a true elite player who makes her teammates better.

Her team lost last night 46-54 :-( she still had 25 points and 8 rebounds but no one else had above 8 points on her team. She is at her best when she can be an all around player so hopefully having high caliber players so the teams can't key in on her will benefit her ! She plays tonight for third place in the state tourney. Good luck Ms. Westbrook! I am interested in seeing her play in the MCDAA game and also hearing how she does in the Jordan Brand classic !
