I give Dooley credit for making the hires he has. We are closer now to being a SEC caliber staff, than we were with some of the other coaches. I really hope these moves translate to wins, because any more rocky performances against teams we should be head and shoulders above will not be viewed as acceptable, especially by the administration and fans alike.

Now, it's on to finishing up NSD, and it looks like with the new coaches we have now, Wilcox and Sirmon will not be missed much.

Glad it's all over, and now we seem to be moving forward.

IMO, this should be a better mesh of personalities/philosophies staff wide. Maybe there wasn't a "grand slam" hire, but I think this will be a better staff as a whole than the previous incarnations.

Big sigh of relief today. What are the chances the fan base gets off Dooley's ax for a little while and let him do his job?

Probably... not much

If the fanbase sees the team improving from start to finish this season, like they should be, then Dooley won't become more of a whipping post than he was this season. I'm certainly more willing to be more patient at this point, but that patience is formed from being cautiously optimistic.

Dooley losing to Kentucky got the fanbase on his back. He needs to actually having a winning record for the fanbase to get off his back.

This would get the fanbase off his back.

1) Good NSD
2) Good spring practices and O&W game.
3) Win 8 or more games and beat a team that we shouldn't next year. (UA, UGA, USCe).
4) Don't lose to Kentucky or Vandy.

If he doesn't do that explain why the fans should give him a pass and not call for his head?

Haven't you been freaking out for a week or so?

What I have been concerned about has nothing to do with the team. It has to do with Dooley being prepared to make hires and be efficient while doing it. I still think this all played out too long, but if Sal truly was his candidate, then he could have asked him well before he did. What got me is, not the lack of info, but what seemed to be a lack of urgency in making the hire. If the hire is made on Wednesday, we get Santos up here for an unofficial to solidify his commitment. Santos is a cornerstone for what type of defense Sunseri will run, and looks like Sentimore and McCullers will be the other two.

Well, we still have NSD around the corner for all the meth heads and six year olds to freak out about. Then it's on to spring practice. They will have time to piss and moan about the neighborhood that Sal decides to live in before we get to the O&W game. Then, when Bray only throws for 80% they can practice their "Coach 'insert name here' is the worst coach in the history of the world. We are lower than teets on a Kentucky Wildcat, fire everybody" chants.

I just want to know what all the people have to say who said we were going to be turned down by everybody but the north dakota tech school for the blind graduate assistants. Go Vols!

could have been a lot worse.

best thing to come out of the whole thing is ponying up the requisite cash to make what was believed to be a good DC hire.

beats the shiz out of economizing by hiring the assistant to the assistant from eastern northern state school of south iowa.

It doesn't matter if Sal was his guy all along. Sal was coaching a pretty important game on the 9th. It would not have been appropriate to approach Sal prior to that. Then Sal had to fly back to Alabama. Dooley had to talk to Saban. Then invite SS in for an interview, and also have him vetted.

Sal coached in the NC exactly 4 days ago.

Frankly I am shocked that it was done so quickly.

I think you have describe exactly what will be required except I will go a step farther...

He MUST beat either FL or UGA...
He MUST be competitive against Bama and win one against Bama and/or USC.
He MUST beat BOTH kY and Vandy.

I would say that a loss to NCSTATE would take a modification and increase of those other expectations to wipe clean. So while beating NCSTATE is not a must, it could start the downfall if we don't win several games we aren't expected to later in the season.

I think that one of Dooley's problems is that he does not speak with the fan base quite as much as he does, but then again, he was hired to coach and not to pacify the rest of us. If he were to be just a little more outgoing to the fans it would take a lot of heat off of him IMHO.

I know I have been in freak out mode for awhile. I wish I could be more level headed like a few on this board and allow the events play out before jumping off the ledge. Glad I was wrong.

McElwain accepted the HC job at Colorado St., and that didn't hurt the offensive production. Persistence is the key to success, not the respect of another coach.

I get that, but my point is that had it happened a month prior to the NC game then sure (as it did with McElwain), but there was only so much that could be done as that game got closer.

It was either well before, or immediately after.

In any case, an OC in the NC was more of an accessory than a necessity for Alabama.

Let's see if I got this. If Sal had to work things out with his family, for example, and needed an extra day or 2 to do it, Dooley should have told him to gfh if he didn't make the decision on Wed. then hire Green, Steele, or somebody instead?

Brilliant:crazy:
