Gruden
-Gruden + Superbowl= enough said
-Time until he could announce would be the longest of all canidates

Davis
-Best resume by far if you minus Gruden's SB. Our 2009 class would be a top 3 class. He's got a top WR and DE committed to UNC, and a half a dozen top prospects who are seriously looking at UNC (Logan Heastie would come to UT). Confident he could retain our current class & get Swearinger &Giles back.
- He could screw this whole thing up and Hamiliton has to be careful. Is he interested for a reasonable price or is he boosting his personal stock at UNC.

Leach-
-If he goes to the NC, it would be hard to not be exitd or optimistic about his hire. Based on how the Big 12/ SEC matchups go in the bowl games, we may indeed realize that that is the next great offensive system and we being the first to install it would be awesome. *He's one win over Oklahoma from being the hottest coach in America so we got to talk to him so we don't miss out.
- Many perceived negatives (looks/sounds like a drunk, ability to recruit, won't work in SEC) but none of any substance. The way TT beat OKST makes you think "who cares anyways."

Kiffin
-Can recruit we think. Only becomes a legitimate canidate if he assembles an allstar staff and keeps our recruiters.
- young and unproven. He's very young and our expected success would adversely give him reason to leave us in 5 years.
*However, if he's that good, wouldn't it be better to have him for 5 than to not have him at all?

Brian Kelly
-only if we go into a depression in the next month and none of the above are interested. However, Kelly and Leach may in the future make us regret not hiring them.

Nobody else should be considered.

Peterson
-He needs to go somewhere like Washington and further prove hisself before he makes a giant leap to a big SEC program. We would be asking a guy who coaches in Idaho to recruit nationally and there is no way we could know that yet. The statue of liberty was awesome, but would that work in the SEC and do we really wanna do that. Btw, Oku, boyd, and others would say "see ya" and we would for sure be building from the bottom.

Patterson and Brewster- Busch league...for now.

I was gonna respond to this idiotic comment about Brian Kelly & Mike Leach but then i saw you live in Alabama so it's really not worth it.

You were going to say something about my Leach and Kelly comment until you realized I was praising them by saying that. What I meant was if we don't hire them, we may regret it. I can see how this could be confused so I will change it.

I would've loved to have heard an ignorant and predjudice remark from someone as cultured and educated as you Mr.JMBO. I hate that it wasn't worth it to you to discuss this further, but considering where I live and my perceived socioeconomic background, I understand that you are not allowed to speak with someone buried at the bottom of the caste system.

If you would like to continue discussing how big of a dick you are we can. I'm no different than the majority of the people on here so I would love to hear what you really think.

I agree with Grateful Vols comment regarding the recruiting hit if we hire Peterson. And I agree with what Hat said regarding if a Peterson does not immediately win it will be a revolt. However, Peterson Built Boise St., Hawkins equals clown and if you don't know that stick to basketball analysis if you know what I mean. I generally agree though our situation is probably best suited for a Big Time A list hire. If we were at the top and Fulmer had retired we could get Peterson or Kelly and it would be all could--Peterson given a couple years is equivalent to any Guru out there. Here though too much pressure he would have one year and then revolution if he did not show good improvement and recruiting ability.

It's really sad that the only good thing some of you can say about Peterson is the hook and ladder or statue of liberty play stuff...Get a clue...The man has lost 3 games in 3 years...I repeat..THREE GAMES IN THREE YEARS...He's a good damn coach...At least give him some credit...You guys are worse than Florida fans sometimes when they are talking about Fulmer and them calling him Phil...Stupid crap...You experts do not know if his offense would work in the SEC or not since he hasn't coached in the SEC...Lord have mercy

Amen Brother--and if we hire Kiffin and Leach wins a NC what will these guys have to say about him then? Likely they will say the guy Crabtree is so good he won it not Leach. I know Leach is your guy. He is not mine. I would not be unhappy to have him though. I just do agree with Hat on the one point that the atmosphere here requires an A list guy to keep things civil and stable but if we cannot get our guys Leach is a good hire. In fact he will likely be an A list guy in the next year or two.

If Leach beats Oklahoma and lord behold wins a national championship, who could complain if we got him. He would be the hottest coach in america. He is not my top choice but he's got my attention that's for sure.

There is nothing personal against Peterson. I would be more comfortable with him if he had some ties to this region thats all. Moving from Idaho to TN would be a huge leap of faith. He is a perfect fit at Washington where he has recruiting ties IMO.

Kiffin would be a joke.......remember the name of another former Oakland HC who went the college route...Callihan @ Nebraska. That went well. As for Kiffin being the OC for USC serving as some sort of qualification for the UT job, with that talent @ USC, I could have looked like a genious. Besides, the offense he ran was that of Norm Chow w/ minimal modifications. If there is no college HC'ing experience on the resume, please do not apply!

So you wouldn't hire Gruden?

Thats the problem,if he makes it to the NC and especially wins, than its gonna take alot of money to get him down in Knoxville. We need to make Leach our #1 target while we still can.

I know what you mean. Fulmer had no HC experience, and took us to a dominating 8 year run with a NC.

Mark Richt sucks at UGA.

WTF was Oklahoma thinking by hiring Bob Stoops?

Given the lack of deep info we have on any of these guys, I'd take any of them and it would be an improvement.

Hamilton's due diligence with his search firm will have way more info on all these guys than we'll ever know. I like his supposed short list.
