Evaluating 2013 Class

If we want to win championships, recruiting rankings cannot look like this against conference foes. Butch had 31 days to pull this together so he gets a pass, even though other coaches in the SEC did much better with the same amount of time(Auburn, Arkansas). In 2014 Tennessee has to be in the top 5 in conference rankings if we want to be a return to relevancy.

This class not just fell short but swung and missed in several areas. Will be in the bottom of the SEC.
-DT: Not one pure DT in the class, and lost a JUCO commit to Barn. That's bad. Really bad.
-DE: Some Say Carr and Miller could both be tackles. If so great, but then they wiffed at end. Brown is a project.
-LB: Vereen seems like a player, but oh man they needed two more in a bad way. Bad.
-DB: Not to shabby, even if they lost Bell.

-QB: killed it.
-WR: Out of the park
-O-line: Decent, but no studs. Will still be priority position next year. Staff wiffed on several guys late.
-RB: They needed at least 2 large backs and got one scat back. Bad.
-TE: Not impressed. One average looking prospect and one JUCO volleyball player who has two to play two

The good. This staff probably could have signed a few more 3 stars but didn't. They didn't go after the low hanging fruit. They set their sights on Bellamy, Lawson, Green, Ford, Levenberry, Bell, and a few others. Out of the elite they got North.
The bad is they didn't really know the score. The staff would have been criticized for not going after those guys. I said a while back that CBJs is making a lot of noise but won't get the results that reflect the effort. I think CBJs lost a couple because he really thought he could get a few of those. Bell was the biggest blow, but certainly not the biggest position of need. I am much less excited about CBJs.

Great post!QB&WR we did great!Hopefully 1 or 2 of the DB's we signed will be as good as advertised.Every where else we whiffed!

That one 'like' you saw on this post? It was from me. Surprised me too.

Thanks Crush. You'll find I am very much a realist. I got slammed because I thought the class was a D (prob a little low) but that doesn't mean I think CBJ is a bad recruiter. Next year will define that. Recruits these days are not going to buy in until they see results. My expectations for next year are beat the teams we should, beat a team or two we shouldn't, and be competitive in the others. If we do that and play in and win a bowl game, I believe the recruiting will take care of itself, especially with how hard this staff works. :hi:
