ESPN's outlook for the Vols

As for a SEC-Pac-10, debate.

PAC-10 vs the SEC.

Arizona is 1-5 vs the SEC.

Arizona State is 0-3 vs the SEC.

Cal is 2-8 vs the SEC.

Oregon is 3-4 vs the SEC

Oregon State is 0-11 vs the SEC.

UCLA is 11-12 vs the SEC

Washington is 2-5 vs the SEC

Washington State is 1-6 vs the SEC

Southern Cal is 17-10 vs the SEC

Stanford is 3-1 vs the SEC.

Stanford's 3 wins came in...

1970 - Arkansas
1978 - Georgia

Also beat LSU but yet to find out what year.

So 80% of your conference has a losing record against the SEC.

I find it odd that you regurally tell me how fulmer doesn't have your teams ready to play yet tedford doesn't have his team ready to play maybe 3 times in 5 years and you tell me this is a pattern and means cal stinks. Leach is a great coach, our guys weren't up for the game, our top 3 receivers and our best dlineman were out for the game. Certainly from a team that lost to a vastly inferior penn state team you can understand that s- happens in college football? That 04 team blew out every opponent, but SC where they were 6 yards away from beating one of the best teams in college football history. Tedford is 2 plays away from having a winning record against sC. They ranked in the top-5 in the country in both offense and defense.

1. Your first sentence isn't true.
2. Teams have letdowns all the time. Cal apparently has one anytime they play a good team.
3. Football is a game of inches. If you lose that battle, you lose, and accomplish nothing. Bragging about near losses is sad. It's sad that UT fans do it with the LSU and UF losses. It's sad when Cal fans do it with USC losses.

Do you realize how pathetic it makes your program sound when you cite "almost victories?"

tedford's only been the coach for 5 years. the team was 1-10 before he got there. how many spectacular victories do you expect him to have? he's 4-1 in bowl games, beat the NCs in 2003. you can only beat the teams put in front of you. He's only had 2 teams that really were any good.

ok how about "great offensive mind." our defense didn't show up for that game. the offense really wasn't the problem except that tedford decided to throw it every down even though our receivers were raw and we had a 2,000 yard rusher with lynch as his backup.

The coach is part of the team, and he screwed up. If Aaron Rodgers and the Cal defense were as good as advertised, it should have worked out better.

No of what you have in that post in any way excuses going on ad nauseum about how "close" you've been against SC. The scoreboard says you lost. The margin is irrelevant.

maybe, maybe not. was that oklahoma team that got blown out by SC really just mediocre? the rest of the season says differently.

You can't use facts and statistics...... That just kills the oppositions argument.

we all know the average SEC team doesn't play quality opponents and the stats reflect this.

oregon state was the worst program in college football up until the late 90s. washington state and arizona weren't far behind. Cal is good every 20 years. this is why these teams were scheduled.

UCLA, USC, and Washington are by far the 3 best programs in the pac-10 over the last 30 years and those teams are a combined 30-27.

Same can be said for USC vs the SEC this decade.

They have beat a 7 , 5 , and two 4 loss teams, and yet to brag about it all day.

I'd find it interesting to see a stat that compared similarly ranked teams from difference conferences. That would really let us know if some conferences are consistantly over or underrated. Scheduling oregon state or washington state until the last 10 years was the equivalent of scheduling Duke or Rice these days.

The same can be said of Cal. Washington State was a top 20 team in 1988 and beat #1 UCLA. That alone is more than Cal did in the '80s.

Most of the SEC's bowls involve a matchup in which they are playing a higher rated team from another conference. To clarify, the #4 SEC team will play the #3 ACC team, etc.

How else should we interpret your prediction:
I can't wait for the meltdown on this board on sept 2nd.

Usually when a fanbase expect an easy blowout victory as many on this board do, even a close loss will meltdown the board.

You've obviously never seen the lack of grace associated with how the fanbase reacts to any loss around here.

I'm checking out Football Friday on ESPN News. They had an interview with starting LB Jerod Mayo. They were talking about a Peyton Manning sighting at USC (Southern Cal). Nobody expects us to beat Cal. Lamarcus Coker was picked as the breakout player of 2007. Projected outlook is 8-4. You know the Fulmer haters will not like that. I think it's funny that they have Coker as a breakout player when we don't even know if he will be the starter. And we probably will not know until gameday.
you can read a lot in that statement right there.........nice post.......

Depends on the loss. Lose to Florida at Florida, no one is really surprised. Frustrated, maybe. Surprised, no. Lose to LSU, same thing. Now, lose to Vandy and the suicide threats begin.

YEAR REC YDS AVG LNG TD ATT YDS AVG
Tedd Ginn 2006 59 781 13.2 58 9 3 17 5.7
Desean Jackson 2006 59 1060 18.0 62 9 5 19 3.8

300 more yards, sophmore compared to junior.

Different type of offense and going up against completely different style defenses.
Comparing the two based on numbers at their colleges is fun and can spark debate, but to say one is better than the other based on pure numbers is questionable.

ohio state had a pro style offense with a heisman senior QB. The big 10 stunk last season too. I hardly see how Ginn was at a disadvantage.
