I genuinely think we should go ahead and self announce the expected sanctions now and hope the NCAA just accepts it. The worst thing would be a two year long NCAA investigation where they then decide to impose punishments and torpedo the next hire as well.

So we're trading the 1999 National Championship and 2000 Heisman winner (Weinke) for the 2000 National Championship winner and Heisman runner-up (Heupel)?

I think Heupel can be good, but I do think that's sort of a funny fact. I know he'll bring a new staff, but would be funny to have Heupel, Weinke, and Tee all on the same staff (3 consecutive national title winning QBs).

With the looming sanctions and depleted roster, plus the direct effect it will have on recruiting, I don’t think any coach would succeed regardless of who it is.

The best we can hope for in the next 3-4 years is a couple solid wins/seasons and to build a roster foundation for the next guy.

The next hire, hopefully free of sanctions and any major buyout, and with some decent talent, needs to be a grand slam.

Heupel is a great hire for where we are and what we are about to go through. Not the best in the business, but he accepted the challenge and knows he is likely walking into a set up for failure.

I support him.
