College Football Week 5 early betting look - Chalk

Tennessee Volunteers

Two good quarters against Florida mean that the Vols have now looked like an SEC contender in three out of the 12 quarters they've played so far. Florida's halftime complacency and subsequent collapse are just masking the fact that Tennessee is still playing mistake-prone and situationally unaware football. The pollsters are always the easiest to fool, but the cat is somewhat out of the bag with the oddsmakers, who have the Vols installed as a mere field-goal favorite at a struggling Georgia team that also has seen its Vegas stock crash this year.

The reduction in value and soft schedule means that you'll need to be more circumspect in picking your spots, but don't expect this team to beat anybody that's truly any good the rest of the way.

I saw this article somewhere else and someone pointed out that Tennessee has played 16 quarters instead of 12.

If...and I said IF....we beat UGA and then lose our next 2....then this is dead on. I am hoping that isn't the case. I'm not convinced Florida is all that good and the same goes for UGA. A win against EITHER A&M or Bama sets us up for top echelon status

I suppose they are only speaking of A&M and Bama regarding us not winning against good teams the rest of the season. GA is still in the top 25, so that will be a good win. Losses to A&M and Bama could still leave the Vols with a 10-win season! Add a bowl win and we could be 11 or more wins this year.

That kind of idiotic mistake is why I don't even touch ESPN anymore. Even the TV channel.

There's a complete inability to do even basic research and editing from every single one of their employees. All of them.

It's just funmy really. Will Georgia be a struggle? It's possible. We just had a huge win and it's on the road. A&m and Bama look solid too obviously.

But the facts are, defense is destroying everyone in the second half. And the offense is putting up points, against va tech and Florida... Lots of them.

If we can quit the penalties at crucial points, and dropped punts or passes, then these first halves aren't as bad.

I don't care either way because we are 4-0 and if we put a full game together... I promise nobody wants to play that team.

UGA is in the Top 25 because pollsters aren't very attentive. They struggled to beat a FCS team that has won 9 games in 5 years. They needed Missouri to have FIVE turnovers to win by 1. And officiating was VERY kind to them against UNC. My point? They haven't beat ANYBODY that is ANY good. And if we take care of business they will be WAY out of the top 25 post Saturday.

So, UT is overrated due to sloppy play yet he put Arkansas as a team to buy while also pointing out their sloppy play? Wtf?

I mean the article isn't wrong, but opinions like this only matter if the team believes it and fails to do anything about it.

Dawgs being a 3 point underdog at home is a bit of a trap bet, since one of the areas where people have been able to squeeze a little house money over the past few years is in the fact that home teams have been covering this bet more often than not.

Vegas has obviously made adjustments and is setting up a bunch of fools who are hoping to take advantage of the trend, so don't expect the line to move much over the week.

Why its time to buy Tennessee:

Everyone who wears the right shade of orange on Saturdays in the fall felt the weight of the Florida Gators on our necks like a prison ball and chain. Although the players themselves probably can't even remember most of those 11 beat downs they were present for the two most recent and humiliating. They heard all the media talk about how Florida was in their heads; they heard all the Gator chatter all off season about how Ducks can't pull trucks and all the rest of it. So with that in mind here is a breakdown of why the Vols have played the way they have this season.

Appalachian State – They weren’t the Gators
Virginia Tech - They weren’t the Gators
Ohio – They weren’t the Gators
Florida First Half – These are the Gators and we’re so danged jacked to get at them that we’re so tight you couldn’t shove a poker up our butts with two hands
Florida Second Half – We’re lathered up and the initial adrenalin rush has worn off so now we can focus and play football against the only team we have wanted since spring practice began.

Now that the Gator curse has been lifted and this team has gotten their victory over the only team on their schedule until this point in the season, they are free to focus on playing the kind of football they are capable of. I don’t gamble but if I did I would load up on the Vols at -3 and a hook,

Georgia hasn't been underdogs in their own house for a long time. if I remember correctly, they were favored against Bama last year. He wants to reference Vegas without knowing anything about the trends.

edit: Dawgs were favored by 1 against Bama

Haven't been dogs at home since 2011 against SC

Keep doubting this team all season media they play better that way.

I love the whole "nobody respects us" angle as CBJ and staff can really use it to our advantage. When you're Tennessee and they treat you like you're Boise State, pretty easy to use that to increase your performance.

Perfect article for today. It is time, past time, to shake off the Florida fog and get ready, really ready to go into a tough place to play and come away with a win against a very good Georgia team! It will require perhaps our best effort of the year. You can bet that a kirby Smart Georgia team will be ready to play after the way they got mauled against Ole Piss!

Preseason people picked us to go 10-2. Ofcourse it's dead on he is just regurgitating preseason talking heads. Nothing to see here.
